1. How long have you owned a house or houses?
2. How many break-ins have you had in that time?
3. If you've been broken into what do you think was the total value of stolen items?
My hypothesis is that home break-ins are not the epidemic that the home security industry likes to scare us into believing.
I expect to hear about a rash of breakins....
The breakins that occur in our neighborhood are the ones where morons leave their cars unlocked in the driveway with valuables sitting in plain sight....2-3 times per year some traveling breakin artists hit our neighborhood because they know there will be 10-15 cars worthy of hitting...ie unlocked
I have two 80 pound dogs and an itchy trigger finger though.
The previous owner had ADT installed, I ripped it out.
I think your theory is correct. The home insurance industry compounds the situation with lower premiums if you have a system. I figure the only value in ours is the smoke/fire alert.
It's not a theory, it's a hypothesis.
Up until two weeks ago I thought the two terms were interchangeable but they aren't. A hypothesis is an untested thought. A theory is back up with evidence. I'm testing my hypothesis hoping to achieve theory status.
Again, I'm sorry.
Sincerely,
Dick
Almost none of the posters here live in shithole, criminal infested neighborhoods. That is my hypothesis.
that your hypothesis became a theory at 12:05 when you got your first independent piece of data.

I’ve always had at least one trained German Shepherd and I’m proficient in small arms.
Haven’t had a need for a home security company.
