Paywall, yada yada, but interesting.
Francis seems unbelievably tone-deaf on this issue. He's really burning through a lot of goodwill, hard to understand.

Hopefully more than a prayer meeting.
I have had issues with Pope Francis from the beginning.
But he is wise to suggest this abuse problem will not go away.
It is systemic, societal, part of the human condition.
Extreme vigilance is required.
I hope he forcefully enacts some measures of proactive caution and transparency.
I pray for him.
He has no easy job.
At the same time cast his true bishops under the bus and while he did not live up to his own call for transparency. This month’s meeting is monumentally important. I pray that the American bishops are not dismissed or scolded. The Vatican needs to clearly explain the elevation of both of these black sheep to positions of special power and influence within Pope Francis’ inner circle.
The dogma will stay safe thanks to the protection afforded to it by Christ, but it looks very possible that there are problems with Pope Francis himself. He needs to address this fully. My bishop has expressed his dismay at the Vatican’s letter to the American bishops at the very last minute for them to hold on their November 2018 meeting - a delay which the media attacked them for rather than Pope Francis interestingly. There need to be answers because it is all too easy to draw seemingly obvious conclusions otherwise..
on how the Church has handled the issue that Francis should resign, and that the Church needs new blood. He was emphatic on this point. It was not a throwaway comment. I thought that was pretty bold to say.
(no message)
And his comments.
He should resign if he does not have a good explanation I pray for the Church’s sake thathe does, and that he explains at this meeting upcoming this month.
