Not bad enough that he brings down home values. (Just looks like he cares, and he is fixing up the place all the time.)
But just bad enough that he always makes me look good. (His weeklong projects take a year or two to complete.)
Great neighbor.
Much better neighbor than the guy on the other side who kept his yard like he was an Augusta greenskeeper. Thank god he moved.

10, 12, 15 feet high. The leaves seem to grab pedestrians as they walk by my house. I don't care.

The best is when there's a squirrel feasting on the sunflower and the Pedestrian doesn't realize it until the squirrel starts to scramble around and creates a big commotion. But the best advantage is people don't park in front of my house because they can't open up the car door.

I never paid much attention when traveling, but over recent years I have, and it does appear that folks in the Upper Midwest do tend to put more time and money into their lawns than most other places. Apparently, some of the people who move here from outside the region in turn feel pressured into devoting what they consider unreasonable amounts of time and expense towards their lawns. Do cities where you live have ordinances regarding lawn maintenance?
The authorities only enforce them against you if you piss off the authorities, but they can't quite pin another statute on you.
And I have no problem with such ordinances. Just as I have no problem with "blue laws." I grew up in an unofficial "dry town," which was fine, too. I've always taken the opinion that cities/towns have a right to determine community standards and if you don't like them, you just move to the next town, which I've done before.
Just for the record, my neighbors and I are safely in compliance. I was just looking out my kitchen window at his deck that he's been working on for 2 years, and laughed. He may be worried about what I think...but probably not, since he never gets it done. But, he shouldn't worrry about what I think, because I think it is his deck, and he can do whatever he wants.
The guy has no class.

Let me know how that goes over.

...I now realize from this board that he was actually just a racist when i just thought it was because he was Dutch.
