ls be embarrassed, yes! Should some people lose their jobs, yes. Should the families be out the money, sure. Should the kids be expelled for lying, yes. Maybe I'm missing something, but I just don't see anything that is worthy of much more than public shame.
People are looking at this as an indication of our society, or perhaps, all societies, the privileged whether you're conservative, liberal, moderate seem to have advantages-nothing new. But if they have an advantage, then someone is at a disadvantage. You can't have one without the other. We see it when big banks, security firms, etc., are fined what seems like staggering amounts when if fact it's a few weeks profit while in a courtroom down the hall someone is getting years and years for doing much less.
Yes, it is public shame for those involved, but is it a shame on society that allows this, encourages it even, and then rewards those who have participated. Do you really believe all those Kennedy boys were smart enough to get into Harvard, that there just happened to be one last spot for George W to get into the Texas air national guard, that Captain Bone Spur's family doctor wasn't just a little influenced by the fact that Trump Sr. was his landlord.
The scandal shames the people and reinforces what Trump and Bernie agree on, the system, in some cases, is rigged.

But public shaming - and a re-examination of our college admission process - is in order.
The real weasels here are the colleges. I don't think you can fault the parents too much for playing the game (although this was outrageous behavior).
Most would be satisfied with a large donation and then taking their chances. As one of the scam leaders said, their families wanted guarantees. Fuck them, a few years in jail is in order.

se donations would dry up the minute his or her "deserving" kid didn't get admitted.

than Orange.
That’s our societal problem, everyone just shrugs their shoulders at despicable behavior.
Usually bribery is limited to public officials, or judicial proceedings, or duties of law on public servants or party officials.
If they got Federal Loans as a result, that is likely criminal.
I'm not defending these people at all. I'm just wondering what statute you think they violated.
Mail fraud I balee maybe also wire fraud.
Nice to see some here think it's really no big deal.
We can't multi-task enough to attend to things like this along with the other ills in society? Really?
Not that you were necessarily talking about me.
I'm not a criminal attorney. I haven't read the complaints, or even the articles about this. Frank acted like he knew what the violation was, so I asked.
Looks like I need to read the complaints.
freight legit should be pissed about this crappy.
I saw some of this bullshit when my kid was applying to colleges. These coaches get so many picks to the elite places and wield some power. I never saw anyone get in who wasn’t pretty good at the sport, but I did wonder about a couple of them who had played with my kid before. I shouldn’t complain because it helped us in one instance although the idjit got squat from me.
My kids were subjugated in admissions to every conceivable minority, revenue sport athlete, non-revenue sport athlete, legacy (except for Lehigh, I guess), and person-with-famous-parent. Throw on a couple of crooks and it makes little difference to us. Seriously.
Credit to Frank: He certainly has more outrage energy than I have.
Don't get me wrong: I enjoy the topics. But my periods of energetic outrage are coming fewer and farther between.
I get outraged about ND tuition bills...and yet here I am...and yet I still watch their football team, in spite of them financially raping me.
Mine all knew what we were paying and made their decisions accordingly.
ND is a fine school. Educationally, there are others that are also very good at a much more competitive cost with scholly money. Tough call.

Their supporters know they are frauds and liars but support them anyway cause they don’t care if their 401K is doing okay. Sad.
You can be absolutely infuriated that politician not only did these things, but is getting away with it (not prosecuted) and actually being elected president, something you have control over.
Not getting terribly riled up about private citizens committing crimes, getting caught, and getting prosecuted is not the same thing.
We as a society accept this behavior from our elected and unelected leaders.
Character, integrity, judgment have all been greatly devalued as qualities that we look for and care about.
Just once, can you post about something else? Or reply to a post not about Trump while staying on topic?
Did Trump run over your dog in 1992 or something? I don't understand.

rimes clearly are similar.
There was wrongdoing here.

med for the rest of their lives. I don't really think they hurt any people or society in large, so I think that's enough. I agree the kids should be kicked out of school. That's enough for me. I don't think anything they did was worthy of a raid on their house with guns drawn.
She’s still rich and selling shit, yes?
early were lacking the proper control measures and many were in on the con.
Need to stop this shit. That’s the only way to do it.
an someone getting into college because they are a legacy, their parents make donations to the school, someone knows someone or a kid just happens to have done more "things" than another kid or someone getting a promotion because they kiss ass better than someone else.
The whole country gets worked up for days by cell phone video of some dope getting dragged off an airplane. It's human nature.
This story has a lot of hooks with the amoral rich people and corrupt coaches. It's not surprising that it has garnered attention. In spite of the sensational coverage, it is still a crime and it's something that has actually harmed kids who didn't get into schools because of it.
of admissions procedures, which already are under scrutiny. Frank L wants these parents put in front of a firing line; I'm just not that offended.

Is it a great horror, no. Is it significant fraud to benefit the elite of the swamp, yes.
This is a highly competitive setting where kids have been preparing for years in many cases.
I am very angry about it though I am also completely unsurprised.
can't endorse them going to jail for something like this.
That’s what I would do. These kids knew what was going on , but they were following their parents. They should not be allowed to keep their admittance, but no other penalty.
Sanders fans too. So many of the people running those education things are.
for the year.....make them dip into their endowment for once. That will get them to clean up and police almost instantly.
Examples need to be made.
their conduct.
still worthy of scorn and punishment.
It's fraud and it's bribery among other things...
prevented the school and nightclub shootings in Florida when there were real opportunities to have done so, and have charged Hillary myself.
