Alaska reimbursing its residents from oil drilling tax proceeds. This is a great idea and every national debt scold should get on board. In 2013, the Institute for Energy Research estimated that the federal government owns $150 trillion in energy reserves under federal lands, a figure far higher than our $22 trillion in national debt. Why don't we drill for those energy reserves and sell them so that we can provide our citizens with a basic income and pay off our national debt at the same time? Give me one good reason why not.
Better get used to hearing the name Andrew Yang. He already leads Booker, Gabbard, and Gillibrand, among others.

cheek of course. I was just putting his proposal out there to debate it.
I do not immediately dismiss it. If it sparked a debate about entitlement spending, that would be good for the Nation.

best cope with or handle this is most welcome.
As for entitlements, government and municipal pensions should be the first to come under scrutiny.
Ds are far more afraid to do this than Rs, and both parties have shown no appetite for tough entitlement
and budget choices.
Repeatedly cutting taxes without offsetting spending cuts will cripple us at some point in time.
Last R who didn't buy into this, or rather reversed course, was 41 and it got him early retirement rather than applause.
Bush's tough choices along with increased productivity due to tech, allowed that asshole Clinton to take bows for
balancing the budget and creating a strong economy. Barry later did a much better job in challenging circumstances
than W/Vice ever did - an admittedly low bar - but also failed to address longer term concerns.
Healthcare wastes over 5% of our GDP compared to other Western economies, and perhaps the Koch brothers are right,
a position both parties should explore.
BTW, cheers Cole, though I do enjoy pulling your chain.

If a replacement, I think we can consider, discuss and debate about it. At least it will eliminate current over 100 fed welfare programs' bureaucracy, making welfare more efficient.
"Every U.S. citizen over the age of 18 would receive $1,000 a month, regardless of income or employment status, free and clear. No jumping through hoops. Yes, this means you and everyone you know would receive a check for $1,000 a month every month starting in January 2021." - from his website
Further, "Andrew proposes funding UBI by consolidating some welfare programs and implementing a Value-Added Tax (VAT) of 10%. Current welfare and social program beneficiaries would be given a choice between their current benefits or $1,000 cash unconditionally – most would prefer cash with no restriction."
I'm calling it right now - Andrew Yang is going to make waves.
