It seems like any sort of trade deal would boost our economy enough to guarantee Trump's re-election. So the issue is, do the Chinese see him as better for them than any of the Democrat candidates other than Biden (who they already have in their pocket)? They certainly don't want our economy to crash due to over-regulation and onerous taxation.... because that would curtail our consumer spending on which they are extremely dependent. Plus, the long standing impulse of the Democrat party is far more protectionist than the free trade instincts of the Republicans. On the other hand, the Dems would seriously curtail our military spending and weaken our ability to defend our other Asian friends. It's a tough calculation for them.
