bias.
I really can’t stand him usually.
He is correct on one thing though. We are rapidly devolving into at least two, if not more nations. It’s disturbing when there aren’t more common values that bind us than uncommon ones that separate us.
The center, whether it’s center right or center left may be boring and may have created a swamp, but it’s still what keeps us together. I really fear that it won’t hold past another generation. What a shame if that happens.
and honestly, we aren't too good at it either.

He bragged about it in fact.
The worst performing areas for life expectancy in the country are rural and Southern, particularly those with populations of over 50% African Americans. Poverty and diet seem to be the biggest factors, but drugs and violence probably also factor in.

Whereas folks in urban areas are fonts of infinite wisdom about everything.
Deplorables transcend geographic, ethnic, racial, and political lines.
Break it down by counties. You will see that many of the places within red states that account for the highest levels of poverty, the biggest health epidemics, the worst educational performance, are decidedly blue areas, which voted for Hillary and which have blue elected officials.
Beyond that, he uses the 2016 election alone to define red vs. blue states because it suits his purposes in this case. Several of those states could easily be "blue" after the 2020 elections. Will he pen a column then that updates all this and concludes that other variables more plausibly explain the divide he notes?
This is another variation on the old, "Why can't you stupid people vote the way I want you to vote" sentiment. Both sides do it when their guy loses. Highly effective. This column is red meat for folks like Conor and Chris because it confirms what they already believe.

The consummate professional.

....MAS is correct about the breakdown in rural settings. The poor voted and lesser educated Dem in 2016 as always though not in as high of numbers because HRC was uninspiring.
Now that they have seen the prosperity that Trump has brought (lowest unemployment in modern history to all segments of society, they may abandon you, however.
Any person who would want to change the approach that has brought us this prosperity is failing to learn from experience. They are the uneducated.

bothered to read such a partisan article in reverse had I linked something from Brietbart? Yet, you fully expect me to do so from The Atlantic?
I am going to make a new post to get at the underlying issue here because it shouldn’t be buried here.

Krugman is a classic example of an acadaeme out of touch with reality and consumed with TDS.
Crime is way down everywhere; economies booming for most.
People in the sticks don’t go to the cities much, maybe.
Better bring your pooper scooper when you do west coast tourism.
