The word, if it hadn't before, has lost ALL meaning now. Libs. Calling freeways racist.
Stunning. Unbelievable. Speechless. I just can't anymore...

Highways go through several neighborhoods, not just black neighborhoods.

job creation too. He is a typical new Democrat idiot.

economy (see attached link)...could be worse.
Also, don't get carried away and try to debate with Mayor Pete should he come to a town near you...that "stupid" comment could come back to haunt you.

......he lied that 19.5 million new jobs were estimated to be created from their stimulus and later admitted he was not being truthful and that it was 2 million ( for the bargain basement price of 1.3 trillion dollars).
Admittedly, Chris Wallace had to squeeze him to get him to admit it, but what other of the multiple Dems touting that lie would admit their deception? Of course, it must be duly noted that no other Dem was pressed by the media on this or any other of their claims in at least 4 years.
a cut from the attached Forbes article that explains why the comments were made...

“Secretary Buttiegieg is absolutely correct,” Princeton University history professor Kevin Kruse told Forbes Monday. “The history of highway construction shows that race was a significant factor in the placement of new roadways in the 1950s and 1960s. New interstate highways weren’t built on a blank landscape. They had to be routed through existing neighborhoods, which were largely destroyed in the process of construction.”

Every problem, including now highways, is now a result of racism. Almost every liberal politician, every academic, all analysts all arrive at the same conclusion = racism. It's a bit much and ascribes something inherently evil in all white folks. Sure there are some bad actors, but to assume such widespread racism means every white dude every day wakes and first thinks how can I oppress some black people. I just don't buy it!
Anyway. Congratulations on fully vaccination day! Have fun with the grandkids. Stay healthy!
comments on Sunday...as you could tell, I was all 'jacked up' and primed to hop on over to the G-Kids house today and wreak some happiness on them and their parents...well, after calling and forewarning their Mother, she acknowledged my ardor, but quickly assumed the role of "the Adult in the room"...seems like she and her husband are still working (who knew?), helping the kids with their schoolwork, preparing meals, making sure they get to bed on time, etc., etc....so...not a good idea to have two more 'kids' in the house bent on nothing but 'mayhem'. Solution: they're all coming over to our place on Saturday for games in the backyard, dinner and all the hugs, kisses and laughter we want...seems like a plan.
Now, as to the constant drum beat of "Racism" that has appeared to take over much of the Board's attention recently...given the recent spate of black citizen killings by police, as well as some fairly recent mindless killings of others, simply for being black (see attached link)...would you prefer that everyone simply be silent and never mention this issue again?

Enjoy every bit of your time with them!
And I'm not suggesting it isn't a problem, racism. And worthy of discussion. I question how pervasive it truly is because everything is labeled as such. I posted a few weeks ago some academics opposed the idea of an elementary school having the evergreen tree as their mascot. Fearful that a tree might conjuror up images of lynchings. That dear Tyrone is crazy on a whole different level. Next thing you know they'll be opposing Dr. Seuss books!!!

I have no doubt that in major cities, we can find highways between predominantly black areas and predominantly white areas. What the piece leaves out are the multitude of highways that separate more affluent white communities from other more affluent white communities. For example, up here in Milwaukee, highways separate Brookfield from West Allis, from Pewaukee, from Waukesha, from New Berlin. All white areas of the city and outlying areas.
This theory and explanation also neglects an obvious point: highways are often economic boons to the communities through which they are built. We have all seen examples of communities in perpetual decline after a highway is moved from the city. So, you are free to describe the construction of highways through communities as "ripping them apart," but, at least economically, that may not be the case at all.
Finally, the author asserts that highways were often built in low income, minority-majority communities because people there lacked political power and could not fight back against eminent domain. How successful were majority-white communities at fighting eminent domain? That has always been an enormous challenge, period.
article distract from the message Pete Buttigieg was communicating. BTW, you can Google it for yourself, but the residents of Oakland, CA fought long and hard to make sure the highway through their community demolished by the Loma Prieta earthquake was not replaced...I know a little bit about this since I experienced it...if you see this as a hole in your rejoinder, so be it.
When the object is to find racism in all things, it leads many down, forgive me, murky roads, littered with dubious explanations and conclusions. I often wanted the folks from the hard sciences to come over and subject historical monographs and social science texts to rigorous analysis. These works would not fare well.
it's my belief that the thrust here is to deal with it when it presents itself, and therefore, as we watch the Biden Infrastructure Program unfold (hopefully), we'll be able to verify how different communities were impacted and how they were treated.
What about our pols? Do you reckon they just reach these conclusions after careful study and fair-minded analysis?
I'm not begging you to be cynical. Maybe a bit more of a Doubting Thomas, though.
When folks are trained to view the world through a couple lenses, don't be surprised when they find a couple phenomena to be the culprit in everything.
that racism is built into "some" of our highways, and if you click on a couple of the links in the Forbes article, you can appreciate the accuracy of that claim. The larger issue of Racism requires more than one thread...and a whole lot of patience. I'm willing to join you there, if you'd like.
