2 things that -- if managed properly -- will make a difference:
1 - Major sporting events, business travel, and many schools are basically shut down until April right now. That will put a slice in the spread that would have naturally occurred.
2 - The coming warmer weather should make it much harder for this type of virus to spread.
The 2 things together should hopefully dial the spread way back, ease concerns about over-crowding the health-care system/hospitals, and then get things under control as we cross our fingers on the efficiency of the vaccine work.
Potential favorable X-Factor: Gilead's drug that they're currently trial-testing shows effectiveness against this virus. If that were to happen, things improve more quickly.
it will lead to a deep slowdown in the number of new cases. And it will give fresh ammo to all of the people shouting about this being no worse than the flu. "See I told you! Can you believe those morons halted the NBA season for this???"
