and have not yet been affected by Chinese virus still get big checks from the Federal government? Politicians love to do stupid stuff to buy votes using borrowed money.
Personally I would be satisfied with a pack of Charmin Ultra Soft, the regular Charmin just isn't the same.
I still have a job and will get a check, that I will likely just put directly into my savings account since I don't need it. My 20 year old daughter (a college student) who lost her jobs at the church and and campus lab won't get a check since I claim her as a dependent (Since I pay grater than 50% of her expenses).
Send it back to the treasury. Find a local agency involved in corona related efforts. Or give it to your daughter.
...and a lot that don't need it are. My daughter is fortunate that I can support her though this since I still have a job. A lot of other college-aged kids that won't get a dime aren't as lucky
I think handing out cash has two objectives.
1. To help those that lost their jobs pay the mortgage or rent, and buy food. Makes total sense to spot them in times of crisis.
2. To get those that have jobs to boost the economy. The problem is this won't work with a cash payment. Instead, if it's truly the government's objective to get this group spending, they ought to just issue these people credits cards with a cash balance and a time limit (say 60 days) to spend it. I'd also put a couple of restrictions on the spending too, like you can't spend more than 10% at any one store or more than 20% in a day. It'll force people to buy multiple products and services, multiple places on multiple days. If they don't spend it in the allotted time frame, then the card is dead. That's how you get the maximum boost. There is no point in giving free money to someone already employed. They'll either throw it into a retirement fund (dead money) or buy a Gucci belt which does little to help the people and companies most hurt by this crisis.

The Trump admin wanted the checks from the get-go since it looks good for them politically.
claiming the idea came from conservatives first. This same tactic was used during the obamacare debate.
Also, he and Pelosi had the first round of negotiations...before congressional republicans were involved. No point in reaching any deal the WH wouldn't sign, which was the reason for the negotiations...the only reason the checks were in the bill at all is b/c the WH suggested it.

My wife and I are still fully employed, making the same salaries and enjoy the same benefits. We don't need a government handout. I know when I receive it, I won't be spending it any time soon.

Also how do you decide who is "fully" employed?
