You can't get accurate curves or models when there was not widespread testing from the beginning. The testing is still so limited and takes so long, even for the commercial labs, that it is impossible for anyone to really know the true impact or lack there of in any particular state. The only thing we know for sure is that New York is a complete disaster.

Yes, and even their orders affect the curve. It won’t improve hospital situation if the curve is
well above the hospital capacity. Flattening growth curve only helps hospitals when the curve is near the hospital capacity. Let’s say your city’s hospital has a capacity of 100 beds (maximum). If new arrival cases are 110 per week, yes, city mayor may make sacrifices by shutting down the city’s economy and other activities to slowdown infection spread so that we can lower new cases to below 100. I may still against this shutdown decision because we don’t know when the peak of the curve is. But this is another argument we all can talk about later. At least this shutdown decision to save hospital makes sense even I may disagree. The point here is if the curve is well above the hospital capacity, let's say the new arrival cases in your city are 200 per week, instead 110. Shutting down city to flatten the curve by reducing 10 new cases doesn’t improve the city hospital at all (It’s still fully occupied, no vacancy for new cases). But the shutdown will cost city huge.

It takes better treatment regimens, which will undoubtedly develop. And it requires us not to leave our entire healthcare workforce completely overwhelmed with exhaustion. Which is what will happen if all the morons head straight from the beaches in Florida to the ICU.
If you gamble on other treatments, that's fine, miracle can happen. But hiding infections in the
future is not the same as avoiding them. This is not a good argument, it is a deceiving argument. We will make a tough decision either now or later, we can't avoid making this decision. The point is that the vaccine will take 12-24 months to produce as WHO suggested, and the lockdown clearly cannot extend that long. If you agree that 12 months of lockdown is not worth the economic damage, then 3 months of lockdown should also not be worth it.
