There were very good people on both sides of that war, I guess.
See my response below....
That does not mean there were not honorable people among them. Or were they all bad, the worst generalization you can make.
Hard to see where the good comes in there.
Robert E. Lee? Who dat? Stonewall Jackson. Huh? What kind of a name is Stonewall? Was he from Germany or something?

I'm leaning towards removing all of the Confederate stuff, but somehow I think it's more complicated, maybe on a freedom of speech standpoint.
Someone said, possibly me, that they liked the freedom of speech ability to display the stars and bars, because it is an easy indicator of people to avoid.

Personally, I think it is weird that US Army bases are named after Confederate generals.
You have to admit that the logic that applies to removing their names also applies to removing a lot more than just that. Why limit the argument to Army bases?...because it is only to go after Trump?...but Trump hasn't said anything about university names, so you don't change those? That's kind of weird, too.
...attention in Tulane's direction.
Frankly, I never knew that bases were named after confederate military figures. It does not seem to me that it was done as a "government endorsement" of their views but more likely that it was an act of conciliation in re-unifying the nation and was done to recognize military abilities and not to condone the beliefs of confederates.
I am perfectly fine with changing the names but am having some difficulty with the reactionary way things are being addressed.
Tulane may have a real issue here...sooner or later.

told earlier today that treason is worse than being a slave holder. Guess it must have been posted by a hypocrite with mailable values.

on a retired police chief shot by looters. It’s the go to just flood the zone with shit playbook.
for him. No squirrels. Just facts. Always like calling you out on the facts. Maybe it would be better to condemn Tulane’s pro confederate history.
Tulane is a private university. Lobby the BOT.
It has nothing to do with the govt endorsing Confederate generals.

Army. Fair discussion IMHO. I don’t see a Fort Benedict Arnold in the North.

Maybe give a pallet of cash.
Capitulating to the fringe is your strategy. But history suggests this is not a wise strategy.

Why does Columbus get the rap for being some evil genocidal maniac? Sorry, it was bound to happen whether it was Columbus on the poop deck or anyone else.

I’d be fine if we burned Clemson to the ground, but for other reasons.
'Base' is used for Air Force installations. No Air Force installations are named after confederate members.
Army installations are 'Forts' or 'Camps'.
May seem minor to you, but to this Air Force veteran, those are fighting words.

as bad as treason. You do realize that the majority of confederate soldiers couldn’t afford to own slaves. Only the politicians, lawyers, plantation owners, bankers, schools (Georgetown) and other Dixiecrats owned slaves.
