Debatable whether or not he falls under the category of "Rock". But, I'd go with Billy Joel.
I'd probably throw Huey Lewis and The News in there too.

Barry Manilow, one of the absolute great American musicians but definitely not a rock guy. Pop musicians. However Jackson Browne is a star.

Built this City is on my most hated list.
Enjoyed Hot Tuna and Jorma though.

I would also add Nickleback and Creed.
More recently Imagine Dragons and 21 Pilots. Can't believe that shit even qualifies as music! I'm a grumpy old man now but Jesus new music sucks.
Flea and John Frusciante are both arguably top 5 all timers.

But listen to the whole Stadium Arcadium album and it may change your mind.

Saw them during their heyday twice, all switched around playing different instruments, especially Michael Nesmith and Peter Tork. Played different types of tunes , from swing to country bluesy ballads to bluegrass to their pop hits. Michael wrote many of their songs. They were the definition of a fake band who became a real band.
I actually liked the music. Had an album.

most people wouldn't consider to be really authentic. It's not a hard and fast rule. I guess bands that aren't really respected or taken seriously.

A little embarrassing when someone rooted through your cassettes and said, "Dude, Aerosmiths greatest hits???"

I have street cred with this guilty pleasure thing because I also have seen Led Zep on their first Chicago stop, CSN&Y, Young acoustic solo, the original Eagles, Pink Floyd in support of "Dark Side of the Moon", Steely Dan, Chicago, REO, Styx (pre-Tommy Shaw and the Tommy Shaw era), Bad Company, Seger, Doobies, Santana, Nugent, Moody Blues, Skynyrd, and so many more. I had to put this out there because I know my new pals here are going to judge me big time.
