Thanks to indifference at the top that trickles down to the GOP masses. And all across the country people are going to get together for Xmas, almost as a point of pride. A political statement.
6000 deaths on some days in January? Let’s hope not. Let’s hope he’s wrong.

Which is 75% Democratic.
Yes, this is a GOP problem. #2 is New York.
STFU.
37,000 people die every year in car crashes. I've had four of my relatives die this way. Do we knock the speed limit down to 40 so most of these people will live? If not, why not? Why is saving 25,000 lives per year not worth it to you? At what point is too many lives lost? Please give me a number.
And 40,000 people on average die every year in flu season. Do you want to mask up, social distance and have no large gatherings permanently every winter to save maybe 20,000 of these lives? If not, why not? Why are 20,000 lives not worth it to you?
You see, if we operate on the principle that every life has infinite value, it doesn't matter the number. But if we operate on the principle that every life has a finite value, then we make judgments on how many lives lost are acceptable and unacceptable.
For me, I'm thinking about the 326 million people who will survive this ordeal even with a worst-case scenario. You can sacrifice their lives in other ways besides killing them...and right now, because our leaders think like you, we're doing a pretty good job of it.
The attached link contains the CDC numbers for all major mortality categories...in all of them, actions have been taken to reduce them with the goal of extending the average lifespans of all citizens.
>For car crashes, the number you see today would have been much higher had it not been for seat belts, airbags, car frame 'crumple zones', etc. If car crash deaths suddenly rose to 5 times the current level, I can confidently say that state and federal governments - regardless of party - would seek significant remedies...perhaps even lowering speed limits.
>For Influenza and Pneumonia deaths, we regularly have yearly vaccines developed to keep that number from rising. When we see a 5 fold increase (and growing) in mortality for that category, you get the response you're seeing.
I know you get the picture; I don't need to continue 'painting'. Yes, it is true that we are all "terminal", but I hope you believe in extending this unique experience for everyone. It is indeed a challenge to use available resources to achieve remedies, and one person's 'deliverance' is another's 'inconvenience'...we all understand the issue. Let's hope that the prevailing spirit and drive is for extending lifespans.
Pardon the on-going admonition...Get vaccinated...practice mitigation...trust in medical professionals who's only goal in life is to extend yours.

That is 6 Vietnam’s. It’s a hundred 9/11’s. Yet morons like you will continue to downplay it. You should be ashamed. No wonder you work in a
dead end job.
What makes 300,000 lives more valuable than these? Please give me a number where the number of lives lost is acceptable.
As for my career, I can't argue with you. I made my bed, now I have to lie in it. But I will make it to the grave without being homeless. Because if the latter happens, I'm checking out.
measures. We should just eliminate them I guess due to economic drag. The auto industry argued that for years doofus.
You really got your head screwed on very wrong.
But not 300,000 people dying of a natural virus. So tell me again, what number is the cutoff point of acceptability for the virus?
cut auto fatalities. Those efforts have been ongoing since the 60’s. They have also made cars more expensive.
They are also cutting those deaths as opposed to the many fold increase in infectious disease deaths caused by COVID.

When this started, we knew people were going to die. I remember seeing initial estimates that said two million people were going to die if we did nothing. We did something, we now have over 300,000 dead.
People can Monday morning QB and say that what they would have done, would have been better, and less deaths would have happened.
I'm a cold-hearted asshole who understood that people were going to die. I feel bad for anyone who has lost someone to this, but honestly, I feel the same for them when they lose someone to a car accident or a stroke. Losing someone to COVID is not worse than any other way, they all suck.
You're entitled to your opinion that things could have been better, and I agree overall that things could have been better. Mistakes were made, but there were also some good decisions. If Clinton had won, the other side would be doing the same thing you are doing, taking whatever the death toll happened to be and talking about how unacceptable it was and latching on to every fuck up she made. If you are honest with yourself, you would admit that whatever administration dealt with this, there would be mistakes, and good decisions.
is not part of this guys makeup
With a political statement. I can tell you this trip we are on now is needed. Being together with other family members and having a good time is healthy. Being around others, especially this time of year is awesome. Life is short and living in doom and gloom all the time is a sad way to be. We invited a few people who just couldn’t make it, wouldn’t come because of being afraid and had my sister in curse and throw things at her mom because she was going and was “going to kill her when she got back”. It was my first real life dose of being around a true, crazy ass Liberal. You people are nuts.
I know you and a few others will spin this back to Trump because in your sad little world, everything is his fault. We need to get back to life and quickly. You can call it a political statement, I’m going to call it enjoying life with my family.
Spare us.
My next door neighbor "needed" to get together with family recently. They all now have COVID, and two senior members of the group are in the ICU.
Try waiting a few months to see them, it's not that hard.
and nothing happened. But then again, touting the 99.8% survival rate (per CDC) doesn't sell newspapers or draw eyeballs.
As always, impeccable judgment.

Lives. More than a few have been caught breaking their own rules because life goes own for them. Just not for you, if you choose to live that way. But you are probably a huge Cuomo and DeBlasio fan who believe they are doing a great job. We cannot all be heartless Liberals. Tomorrow is not a given and I am closing to live for today.
So now, I am going to go join the rest of the thousands of selfish morons on vacation and head to Anakeesta. You enjoy you solitude.
We all want to.
Some of us are making responsible choices, and some of us are not.
As a result of the latter, the virus is going to be booming in January.
And this from your queen...Barbra Streisand...
But in your eyes, you’re right about everything. Still waiting for an answer about where the flu went. I’m sure you’ll be back here happily reporting about the death numbers. Sad way to live.
And of course it’s not a need. It’s just people putting self before others. Before country. But fuck ‘em, amirite!?
That’s what you’re doing.
Hit your radar. And there are a thousands of people in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. Cabins are full and so are all the shows and restaurants. Took us 90 minutes to drive hime yesterday. Lots of people saying “fuck it” and enjoying their holidays. If anything, you are in the minority on this and that number is shrinking. People are getting back to life and I know it pisses you off.
Rural areas hard-hit by COVID-19
The virus continues to spare no part of the state.
This week, nine cities in Tennessee were among the top 20 in the country for the fastest-rising number of new cases, adjusted for population, according to The New York Times.
As of Wednesday, those cities include:
Sevierville, Tenn. (No. 3)
Cleveland, Tenn. (No. 6)
Athens, Tenn. (No. 7)
Tullahoma, Tenn. (No. 8)
Greeneville, Tenn. (No. 9)
Crossville, Tenn. (No. 11)
Morristown, Tenn. (No. 12)
Cookeville, Tenn. (No. 17)
Johnson City, Tenn. (No. 19)
A Vanderbilt study released last month showed that counties without mask mandates had significantly higher COVID-19 death rates. The study also showed those counties are largely rural, and Tennessee’s rural residents are generally older, less healthy and have less access to health care — three factors that exacerbated the virus.

And don't even get me started on all those stupid "country people."
It's a good thing we don't have tens of thousands of "urban people" throwing parties weekend after weekend flouting the mask rules. As Iggle pointed out, such uneducated, ignorant folks shall not be in our crosshairs. No sir.

People were going to stop following these guidelines at a certain point, and shaming them just foments even more rebellion and anger. The "experts" also contributed mightily to this, contradicting themselves in major ways numerous times. The same folks who assign sole blame to Trump are the same folks who carefully explain that our well-trained experts couldn't be expected to get some fundamental things correct from the beginning. It's a learning process for them, you see.
Unbelievable.
I guess throughout this what has bothered me most is the lack of perspective and the whining, particularly from men. This is largely a consequence of historical ignorance. What we are going through right now is relatively minor compared to what countrymen endured in the past. People lived through a worse pandemic just coming out of the horrid First World War. People lived through a monstrous Great Depression. People lived through the threat of atomic/nuclear war for decades, which many/most believed was imminent. There wasn't this sort of whining and infantilizing projected, certainly not to this extent, by the men of those times.
300,000 deaths are terrible. I suspect all the mask-wearing in the world would not have prevented most of them from dying. Life is hard. Terrible things happen. Far more often in other places than here, I might add. We will get through this. Having a bunch of men sound the alarm on a daily basis and emote helps no one and just increases anxiety.
See I look at this a bit differently. I agree with you that we have gotten through much worse. Back then folks strapped it on and did what they had to do. It was real hard, but that was that. My grandfather was a coal miner who died from black lung so I get the point. What bothers me is that our snowflake society can’t be bothered with such minor things as mask wearing as its inconvenient, awkward, or they don’t want to do it. Same with avoiding mass gatherings, and close indoor encounters. Wash your feckin hands, you bunch of piggies. Just basic public health shit. How feckin hard and put upon is that? Yet, seriously we can’t muster the courage and will to do these simple things. That bothers me much more than those who complain about those things not being done and for the lack of leadership by the govt. Being a leader is getting people to do things they don’t like. Grade F-.
they won’t do them to be snowflakes.

I understand your point and I don't disagree at all. But that is not what's meant by snowflake.
