They promote it, don't think they post it.
or someone’s else’s post.
The goal is to keep you on the platform, clicking and viewing ads per the profit model. "attention extraction algorithm".
The obvious side effect is that crazy people become more and more crazy and more and more confident in their distorted world view. This is how we get to the Nashville bomber and the events today, etc, etc...

It's about feeding information, real or fake, to feed you stuff that will stroke your confirmation bias to the point you become as deluded and profitable as possible. Keep clicking bitch!
Of course, for most rational people this isn't a huge problem, but on the edge, the radicals, it causes the types of chaos we've been witnessing.

And you can see the algorithms at work in your google news feed. Click on an article about the monster waves in Nazarre, Portugal and suddenly you get lots of stories about surfing. Click on a story about how fucking dumb Diblasio is snd suddenly you get lots of stories about how fucking dumb Diblasio is.
People only see what they have indicated interest in by means of a click. They begin to believe that is the whole story.
We are very close to living in a Black Mirror world, IMO.
