To my conservative friends. The party of law and order stormed the capital and beat capital police.

Is that your party? If so, this un American action goaded on by their leader did this. There is no justification for this action.

Like the D’s that want felons to vote. I can’t support that party making lame excuses for this action. Now those in the R’s that make their supposed grievances about election fraud they still can’t prove that would have changed the outcome. Even after storming our country’s Capital while beating police officers.

What does Trump have to do to get some of the Trump supporters to question his behavior since he lost the election?

He helped turn Georgia blue and now he provokes the attack on our Capital.

His priority remains himself and he has done nothing to deal with the virus for months.

Fuck him.

I live in Michigan and Macomb County is the heart of Trumpland here. It is traditionally a heavily unionized solid Dem district. They felt abandoned by the Democrat party and fell for Trump's anti-establishment rhetoric. They really have very little in common with the Republican establishment, who they see as spineless RINOs. The truth is that these Macomb County folks are the real Republicans in Name Only. Now they have no party at all. It is a little scary to imagine what this means. But they have now foresworn the Republican party.

After the past ~8-10 years I am operating more from principles than party.

Hard to see myself in either camp (so I guess I'm in the wilderness for awhile?)

Socially liberal - I really don't care who you cuddle with
Fiscally conservative - can we please stop spending so much? both R and D
Want a strong military but prefer we try not to use it - even as a vet, and the father of a vet, and the son of a vet... I wish we would keeps troops home
US centric at home - can we sort a way to provide standard healthcare in the US... at least for those under 18?
Not politically correct - per #1 above.. I don't care about your race, gender, sex, dress... just do your job and STFU

and on and on and on...

Glad you guys finally woke up.

Although, I don't know why a bunch of yahoos storming the capital is what did it. Do those guys really represent your party? Really? Then why the hell was the GOP your party in the first place. Very strange.

The Democrats have no problem with the Summer of Love riots. Those riots didn't make them wake up and say, "I no longer have a party." So, either they are good with left-leaning riots (in which case you should still oppose them), or they don't think those urban yahoos represent their party (in which case, why should you claim the yahoos from yesterday in DC?). I don't see how yesterdays events changed anything.

The parties abandoned me a long time ago. I flirted with the libertarians for a while, but now, like most non-morons, I don't like any candidate, I just support the one I hate the least. Funny how the most cult-like people on this board in support of their candidate, call the other side a cult, when most of the other side holds their nose and fights for principle.

I actually think I could even get behind someone that I don't like, but can trust?

I have found myself at odds with some members my family for the better part of 10 years because I'm a "Lib." Friendly banter mostly and it's family so we are cool giving each other grief.

In Europe I am a neocon...US globalist... capitalist... and get a whole different raft of grief.

I think the saying is "if you are in the middle of the road you tend to get run over?" But I am quite comfortable here, and hope that I can get a few to join me.

It swept through Ontario from 1995 - 2002 with Premier Mike Harris (Conservative).

The basic tenets were:

- tax reduction
- balanced budget
- reduce the size and role of government
- emphasize individual economic responsibility
- increased health spending

Based on these simple principles Mike Harris was elected Premier of Ontario in 1995 with a sweeping majority. He then went and implemented everything he said he was going to do. Personal taxes were cut 30%, Provincial spending in low priority areas was drastically reduced, abled-bodied unemployed people were taken off welfare and instead transferred to workfare (they had to perform work for the government in return for getting government assistance), he eliminated one entire tier of municipal government in the City of Toronto, he balanced the Provincial budget. His reform was deep and it was harsh, but it was absolutely necessary.

The left went crazy at all the cuts, but the economic results were incredible. During Harris' reign, Ontario's economic growth exceeded every OECD nation. It was a glorious time to be alive. Later, Stephen Harper would borrow much of the Common Sense Revolution's principles and implement them at the Federal level as Prime Minister. I'd rank Harris and Harper as the two best politicians of my lifetime.

There was a study done a few years back that ranked Mike Harris as the best Canadian premier since 1980 (out of 81 Premiers) because his simple approach to government was the most effective. The study looked at the outcome of economic policies on things like job growth, balanced budgets and business investment. The survey went on to indicate that the most effective form of government (at least in Canada) is small c-conservative. I think the same would hold true for the US.

Violence (not the silly silence is violence, but the real thing) should not be tolerated on either side.
- Storming the cap.. arrest them
- Looting.. arrest them
- Burning a police station... arrest them

Both sides have accepted awful behavior while pointing at others for similar offenses. Not sure how this ends, but the way that we are seeing those who are upset express themselves is a concern.

In all cases it is unacceptable.

police were overrun. This summer was even worse, and no one few spoke out from the left, until about a month and a half in. The stupid people from yesterday followed the example set in the summer instead of behaving like sincere Republicans wanted them too. As much as I like Trump's policies and don't mind when he mocks people who deserve it(Elizabeth Warren), why the hell does he have to get his message across while just a simple no violence speech should have been made.

Over the summer, especially early, I can see the lack of preparedness. In this case, I am shocked that they were not both aware and ready for this. Thankfully, while idiots, they did not burn the place down... which by the looks of it was a real possibility.

Making it hard to stay hopeful that cooler heads (if there are any) will prevail.

Again, look at the obvious beneficiary. I will guarantee that the ANTIFA groups that were behind the violence this past year were the primary agents of chaos yesterday.

1) Who benefited from it. (The Left).
2) Who has the history of resorting to it (The Left)
3) Who was planning to do it and bragging about it (The Left).
4) who was shot (14 year Air Force vet Trump supporter).

In fact, I believe that this was the doing of the same radical left ANTIFA people who hijacked the BLM protests And turned them violent.
But either way, we on the Right are condemning the violence regardless rather than staying silent. We would also not condone it if they took over city blocks for weeks/months and set up an autonomous zone, and we do not want to defund the police either.

So far, all that have been identified are Trumpers, not antifa.

He said walk over to the building. Are we to be so self righteous that we need to condemn violence for everyone to see. Being anti-violence should be the norm and I don't need to bow to the crowd by displaying public outrage. Getting lectured by pro-abortion war machine crowd is rich. The politicians and TV talking heads are tripping all over themselves trying to be the most outraged, including some here. An unarmed woman was killed by police. She was white and she was a vet. All lives matter. Say her name.
