"Cyberspace", so we need a "Few Good Geeks" as well ;-)...
Here's an excerpt from the article that should provide some assurances to those who worry about hand-to-hand combat readiness...
"The new standards will only be applied to the regular fitness test given to all soldiers annually and will not change the tests troops need to take to qualifying for certain Army jobs such as combat positions or specialties. "
They made the decision because women and older people can’t pass the test and it’s particularly hurting their diversity numbers.
fact is, if you're in a dogfight, you need to pull the g's.
persuasive logic would have been, 'not everybody has to engage in dogfights.'
doesn't matter - they're lowering the standards to fit their agenda. they need to explain how the new standards won't affect the military's ability to defend this country.
requirements for female fighter pilots?
As an aside, Patty Wagstaff has pulled 7 negative and 10 positive G's...I'd say there are probably other females who could do the same.
you do have to be pretty strong and disciplined to hold the controls if you black out (red out in the case of negative g's). there's more to it than that, but most women can handle it.
the air force's physical fitness program is a total joke and should be eliminated.
again, from what I read, the Rangers and Seals aren't loosening up on such challenges as "Hell Week"...I think we'll still be ok when it comes to combat readiness.
At least they are being honest about their rationale. And to your point - multiple ways to the top.
LTJG (active)...I'm interested in exactly what your point is regarding diversity in the officer ranks...please share.
The physical fitness test is driving out women which depletes the ranks who can get promoted.
thing?...for the women...AND...the military?
somewhat of interest. That seems to be a real push up the ladder even when she served as a carrier XO.
I'll bet when or if ever she dines in the officers' mess there is not a lot of talk about night landings with low ceilings or a pitching and rolling deck since she doesn't have any experience. Makes me wonder how she can determine when to order no more launches in those conditions, she has never been a CAG commander, so sum ting wong.

That's an admittedly touchy situation...but even an NFO/RIO would have felt the anxiety of those traps and appreciate the issues faced by pilots...so if other virtues in their CV, like outstanding management skills of large vessels, or strategic decision-making were part of the equation, I'd guess they'd have a real chance of 'earning' the job.
btw, it's my understanding that the Navy regs allow for an NFO/RIO to be Captain of a carrier...probably not many
a jet on a carrier in the middle of the night with a howling sleet storm blowing and a pitching deck of +/- 30 feet...amazing courage and skills, which will deservedly garner 'kudos' from all hands...yet everyone knows that it takes quite a bit more to command such a vessel, so I'm assuming that she did very well in all the other categories, including nuclear power training, seamanship, naval strategy, etc....plus, she is a "Naval Aviator"...maybe not experienced in "cat shots", but she's got her wings.
It's a signature event and I wish her the best..."Bravo Zulu!"
P.S. This will drive SRD and a couple of others nuts, but I've got a nephew who is a Navy Helo pilot, so I'm a bit biased in that regard.

take a look at your own family tree, I think you'll find some very accomplished members you never knew were there.
Woof!
Not much fault you're a pervert and a liar.

Carry on. You may continue lying.

deeply about those relatives, especially the LTJG who is just starting out her career in the Navy...I am hoping that her future will not be unfairly impeded by misguided thinking of others in a position of influence...this isn't just idle chatter for me and I'm letting you know that...

and you'll be the better for it...could start now...are you in favor of our military services lowering physical standards?
Pathetic.
