……you have to have been watching Michigan politics long enough to understand the perfidy of this.
In the case of the black, former Detroit police chief GOP candidate James Craig who was the favorite to win this Fall, he is now fighting his case in Court as campaign time dwindles away. The Dem canvassers claimed that he had suspicious and “clearly invalid” signatures among the 15,000 required. They point to the signature collectors as the problem.
But a closer into how the counts occur is very interesting. Every campaign knows that some signatures get thrown out, so, they collect a buffer number. But the Whitmer people feel that reviewing each signature would be too cumbersome, so that is they find even a “questionable signature” on a page of signatures, they throw out the entire page of signatures. Of course, in this case of signatures from inner city Detroit and elsewhere, there is none of the usual worry about “suppressing the black vote” or that “every vote should count”. Instead, they argue that the can look at a small sample size and then extrapolate the % to the entire population of signatures collected. The oversight is handled by Whitmer’s close friend sec of State Jocelyn Benson - a person who in 2010 was one of the George Soros AG nominee projects.
Meanwhile, once the Dem canvassers know how many signatures there are to be turned in total, they then know how many signatures that they have to nullify. Certainly, every candidate has some signatures that get thrown out, but half of the Republican field was eliminated when this normally is a very rare occurrence. Further, it has never happened to a candidate like Craig who will easily be able to garner millions of votes much less 15,000 signatures.
There are also complaints that Whitmer advocates purposely poisoned voters collection by sticking in names that they would know to look for and which would poison entire pages of votes knowing how Whitmer canvassers have chosen to count the signatures.
Gov Whitmer, Sec of State Benson, and their machine have pulled this before…..with ProLife legislation that was to appear on the ballot a couple of years ago. But this is more brazen. They have tossed out a few small candidates in their “invalid signature group application group” (there were 11 GOP candidates of which they tossed out half of the applicants) but conveniently included in that group were the two biggest threats to Whitmer. In the meantime, they left the yuppie white GOP candidate from W Michigan that won’t garner the same votes in Detroit that James Craig will.
Craig is suing in court to have his signatures actually counted, and he has many people whose signatures were disqualified openly stating that they signed the petition and willing to testify. But the clock ticks against him, and Jocylen Benson will not allow the individual signatures of African American voters to be counted on supposedly affected pages from their small sample size, not will they simply review the 15k signatures individually because the job is “just too big” to do.
Please note that this is the same Jocelyn Benson who recently accused Trump of telling her privately that she should be “arrested and executed”. She is a hard core Whitmer kook.
I have no illusions about the lies that Whitmer’s people will put forth and that the liberals here and elsewhere will gladly accept them. But let it be clearly shown here how much the Dems really care about the African American vote and their voice in politics when those votes are Republican.

Which wouldn’t surprise me in the least. Really hope she gets the hook, but seems unlikely.

Everyone can vote... For this one candidate.

It is naive to believe that it does not affect election outcomes or that there are valid ways to resolve it.
That’s where we resolve such disputes.

Brilliant politics. But, totally disingenuous. Shame on you.
Perhaps with a link to the NYT, which would also have condemned by now. Party first; rule of law non-existent.
“The Bureau of Elections determined that at least 36 petition circulators submitted at least 68,000 fraudulent signatures across at least 10 nominating petitions — not all of them petitions for governor and not all of them submitted by Republicans. Those whose petitions were deemed insufficient because of fraudulent signatures included a Democratic congressional candidate and nine judicial candidates, who appear on the nonpartisan section of the ballot.”
Per Detroit Free Press
Courts offer relief, Ned. If candidates of either party were unfairly removed from the ballot, I hope and urge the Michigan Supreme Court to quickly rectify the problem.
with a prolife bill that was supposed to appear on the ballot. Same people. Same stink. Always works in the Dems favor.
He turned in over 21k signatures. This is a bogus and blatant political move by the very Dem who told voting canvassers to skip signature verification in 2020 against Trump. A Soros promoted candidate with a history of doing this to other causes that she opposes.
Once again, the Left is weaponizing the government against its' political opponents...and they show here that they will do it to minority voters in a heart beat if it serves their needs.
You are a hypocrite for not speaking out in the same way that you have in other instances. the only difference was which party it benefitted. i am forced to conculde that you and the Left are NOT interested in helping minorites, you are interested in gettign votes for your control of government.
These rules apply for almost any office — federal, state, local.
You lack standing for any of us to adopt your representation of the facts and rules.
But, I encourage any aggrieved candidate to take their claim to the court system, where there is a much better chance that the facts can be brought to light.
The GOP has plenty of legal support to assist their candidates.

...there are rules requiring voter ID.
when it worked in Dem favor against Trump.
Now, she claims that she needs to do the opposite with signatures when it works for the Dems.

These women running the place are as bad as any men, and particularly Whitmer & Benson.
