Alice In Chains April 1993 UC Irvine Bren Events Center. Went with my high school girl friend and her brother and his buddies.
Not that it's a great story, but the very first time I got high. I've smoked weed 3 times in my life. Can't stand it. But that was the first time I tried it. Girlfriend got PISSED!!!
Hearing Santana plays through the trees on that Sunday evening, as the rain moved on leaving a pink/blue sky, was a great end to a wild weekend.
parents would let us drive so we took a 20 mile bus ride.
Just before show starts they announce Crazy Horse will not be opening due to their Truck with all their equipment had been stolen in Philly the night before.
J Geils opened and they were incredible.
The Busses stopped running because snow continued. I spotted another friend down on the floor and hooked up with them during intermission and got us a ride home.
I bought a Black BOC Hat and wore it to first day of High School Baseball tryouts/practice. At end of practice my Coach for the next 3 years says, Frank if you wanna play on my team you won't be wearing that hat tomorry.
July 4th rolls around and I am wearing my BOC hat while water skiing with the buds and there is a huge Beach Party on the Magothy. I cracked the whip and dropped right in front of the party, boat comes around to give me the rope.
I give them the signal I am ready, they hit the gas and I come up out of the water with nothing on but my BOC hat. It was a great 4th.
A cozy venue with 91,000 in attendance.
Some stoner in back would light a doobie, take a hit, and pass it around from person to person. 100% of the time, when it came to me, I said no thanks and passed it along. No way. I've been going to concerts for over 50 years and the shows back then were very different than now. Louder than hell. A haze permeated over the venue. Objects getting thrown in the crowd. Loudest concert I ever attended was Uriah Heap with Deep Purple as the headliner. We had fifth row center. The blazing sound of "Easy Livin'" still rings in my head all these years later.
Guy inside asked for directions. My friend told him how to get to the nearby venue where they were booked. The guy looked familiar to him. As the van drove away, my friend realized it was Neil Young with Buffalo Springfield.
This place, out in the sticks of Wisconsin, hosted the Beach Boys in '63, the Everly Brothers in their prime, Ricky Nelson, Herman's Hermits, Duke Ellington, and so on.
Lied to my parents that I was going to a friend’s house. First time I saw people smoking week. Thought it smelled like a skunk.
through the states on the Joshua Tree tour. Bono slip and falls in DC and dislocates his shoulder. A few days later they are in Philly and I don't have tickets. A neighbor who works at a doctors office calls and ask if I want to go. Bono is in her office and hands her 2 tickets for the show that night. She has no idea who he is and gives them to me. Great show.
The show was at JFK which is now gone. It was also the show the Springsteen came out and performed with U2.

Knew right away they were going to be huge. Amazing concert.
And listen to them practice for the tour. I’m not a Stones fan but they sounded pretty good,
Pick up beer at the Springfield and then stand around drinking them while listening to the concert with the Philly cops wandering around. They didn't GAS. Those were the days!
