As I noted a few days ago, Garland would have been a perfect Supreme, but as head of the DOJ, not so much. Not really in his wheelhouse.
I think BTC gets this correct. And remember as strong as BTC is, he's not the extreme but he is left. This was from RMS where he comments
on what appears to be a logical path seeing what little has been shown the last 18 months. Garland doesn't have the spine for this.
This memo following the Bill Barr rules of engagement seems to me to be the smoke of Garland's obsequies.
The longstanding DOJ Policy (the one Comey ignored on the eve of 2016 election) is to avoid any appearance of impacting an election via the TIMING of charging decisions re candidates or commenting on an ongoing investigation. That is different than the decision to charge or not charge a candidate. Garland is simply reinforcing the policy of keeping DOJ far and apart from "politics" in the spirit of maintaining impartiality.
