There’s are a ton of cutting that could be made that by themselves are a far, far greater burden than say family welfare.
If your heart is really in it, don’t start with individual cuts. Start where it would make a difference.

...this has been going on for several years...we absolutely benefit from increased immigration...in all job categories.

age groups, for year 2021, only 81% of all civilians in the 25 - 54 age group were working or actively looking for work.... which was the same percentage in 2011, so it isn't Covid related.
IMO, that is the major reason for the decline we've seen...and the reason why it has flattened recently....also, as the FRED says, more research is needed in order to understand why it isn't increasing enough...hopefully you have some ideas on this...for me, it makes sense to INCREASE immigration, given our low birth rate which is unlikely to change markedly anytime soon...make sense to you?

to move out of the parents basement and parents that want to be friends with their kids instead of being a parent and instilling responsibility. As of 2021, only 55% of kids between 16 and 24 work or are trying to find a job. When you break up the age group, only 71% work or try to find a job between the ages of 20-24. That is pathetic.
between lower age group declining LFPR and the dramatic increase in student loan debt...those 'kids' aren't slacking so much as trying to maximize their future earning power...makes sense...here's an excerpt from the report...
---------------------
While the LFPR growth for the elderly is the most striking feature in the chart above, we also see a noticeable decline in the youngest cohort. A significant driver of this trend has been the decision to stay in (or go back to) school for more education. Supporting evidence is found in the eye-popping growth of student loan debt, especially since the onset of the Great Recession. To be sure, some of that trend is accounted for by older cohorts heading back to school in hopes of improving their employment prospects.
---------------------
I've also observed anecdotally that a lot of low wage earners at CVS, or Mickey D's are seniors instead of kids...also jibes with the FRED data on LFPR for the age groups.
What do you see?

if Baron would do any research he wouldn't have to make such posts...Gov. Abbott is creating chaos for political points with his base...but something tells me neither Abbott, nor Baron really care about doing the right thing.
btw, those immigrants being bussed and flown are in the U.S. legally...a Christian response would not include purposely trying to make their new lives much more difficult...but again, Abbott and Baron don't really care.

He was appointed December 21, 2021 by Biden, so it looks like he is simply a tool of the administration..
Well, this fits, from his bio;
In 2014 Magnus married his partner of many years, Terrance Cheung, then chief of staff to Tom Butt, the mayor of Richmond; this is thought to be the first time an openly gay police chief in the United States has married.
Please do not make jokes about removing a staff from a butt,.....or tools..
You follow the god of this world in your holy robes and call yourself a believer. You are not!
ripping immigrant families apart with no means of reconnecting them a Christian virtue?...of course not...take your blinders off.
As for me, my wife and I just got back from storing pallets of food at a St. Vincent de Paul facility which will be distributed (by us and other volunteers) next week...been doing this for over 15 years.
But by faith alone. Genders, diversity, immigrants, gays, homeless, drugs, abortion, fossil fuels, nuclear energy, Russia, Ukraine. You need to get yourself right first before you deal with any of the aforementioned issues.
Get yourself a proper church with some proper teaching and repent. You're in a bad way, my friend. A bad way.
by the very religious CSCs who sought to produce not only educated, but caring, graduates?...note especially the "Gender Relations Center" and "Center for Social Concerns"...sorry, can't do it.

That's precisely the problem. You are the very embodiment of a modern day pharisee! You are the worst of the worst.

And I am afraid of the lot of folks associated with the University are as well. We are in an era when people will not longer adhere to sound doctrine. That dusty old manuscript you despise tells us this. You should try picking up it one day before it's too late.

are you confusing 'Citizenship' with legal immigration?

lies the problem. Abbott "could"take the time to work with the Feds, in fact he "should", but he has chosen not to...why?...the obvious answer is "Pure Partisan Politics" with no regard for the welfare of legal immigrants lives...all to maintain the GOP trope of "Open Borders".
(no message)
For years, it was the Democrats who resisted immigration-mostly to appease union member constituents.
Republicans historically favored immigration, always pushing for more work based visas—mostly from big business constituents. Many people forget it was Ronald Reagan who granted amnesty to millions of illegal aliens by pushing for and signing IRCA in 1986.
There has really been a reversal from both parties on immigration policy.
The “border” as evidenced on this Board is about the fear narrative — which circles back to “OMG! They’re coming for us!”
adhered to?...how exactly is our Souther Border being thrown 'Open', where it wasn't before (e.g. during Trump's tenure).

you'll find that there are sound reasons for those guidelines...and they are supported by SCOTUS decisions.
--------------------------------
I. Foundational Principle: The Exercise of Prosecutorial Discretion
It is well established in the law that federal government officials have broad discretion to decide who should be subject to arrest, detainers, removal proceedings, and the execution of removal orders. The exercise of prosecutorial discretion in the immigration arena is a deep-rooted tradition. The United States Supreme Court stated this clearly in 2012:
"A principal feature ofthe removal system is the broad discretion exercised by immigration officials. Federal officials, as an initial matter, must decide whether it makes sense to pursue removal at all."
In an opinion by Justice Scalia about twelve years earlier, the Supreme Court emphasized that enforcement discretion extends throughout the entire removal process, and at each stage of it the executive has the discretion to not pursue it.
It is estimated that there are more than 11 million undocumented or otherwise removable noncitizens in the United States. We do not have the resources to apprehend and seek the removal of every one of these noncitizens. Therefore, we need to exercise our discretion and determine whom to prioritize for immigration enforcement action.
In exercising our discretion, we are guided by the fact that the majority of undocumented noncitizens who could be subject to removal have been contributing members of our communities for years. They include individuals who work on the frontlines in the battle against COVID, lead our congregations of faith, teach our children, do back-breaking farm work to help deliver food to our table, and contribute in many other meaningful ways. Numerous times over the years, and presently, bipartisan groups of leaders have recognized these noncitizens' contributions to state and local
communities and have tried to pass legislation that would provide a path to citizenship or other lawful status for the approximately 11 million undocumented noncitizens.
The fact an individual is a removable noncitizen therefore should not alone be the basis of an enforcement action against them. We will use our discretion and focus our enforcement resources in a more targeted way. Justice and our country's well-being require it.
By exercising our discretionary authority in a targeted way, we can focus our efforts on those who pose a threat to national security, public safety, and border security and thus threaten America's well-being. We do not lessen our commitment to enforce immigration law to the best of our ability. This is how we use the resources we have in a way that accomplishes our enforcement mission most effectively and justly.

Again I ask...'What Law, Quota or Procedure' is not being followed?...you may want to expel every single person asking to immigrate to the U.S., but it is legally impossible to achieve...and foolish, as we definitely benefit from more immigration given our declining labor participation rate...all of this "Open Border" rhetoric is nothing but a political trope.
The nonsense you believe is in equal measure unbelievable and frightening. Religion, science, politics, ethics. You get it all wrong. Staggering for someone who claims to have attended ND.
the security of our border any different than it was under Trump?
highest by far. Record 2 million apprehensions at the border this year, record deaths of illegals at the border and record fentanyl coming across. The border is secure and it’s Trump’s fault VP Harris tells us.
Link: https://www.cbp.gov/newsroom/stats/southwest-land-border-encounters
so long as each and every apprehended individual was dealt with in accordance with our immigration laws, quotas and procedures, then there is no "Openness" that differs with what was assumedly done during the Trump administration.
Impossible. Like the preside you just want to deceptively redefine terms. No thanks!

being violated?...if not, how is the border "Open"?...answer the question.
That gives you a sense of the magnitude of the problem. You know this, but are choosing to be deliberately obtuse (as Andy Dufrense would say). I have no idea what you think you are gaining from this idiocy. Everyone sees through the tactic and knows what you are doing. The fact is that the crisis with the border is much worse under Biden than it ever has been before. No doubt you will begin to get a sense of that when Abbott starts sending buses to the Bay Area.
processing of immigrants, not the sham that Gov. Abbott unleashed.

your claim?...does it cover the time period from 2000 to the present?...I'm guessing NO to each question, therefore you are mindlessly flapping your lips while repeating the trope "Open Borders!".

Trump's admin?...fast forward...the Border is no more "Open" than it was the previous four years...this claim of yours and the GOP is no more than a tired "Bromide".
Have you talked to the ranchers, farmers, Police Chiefs, border residents?
our immigration laws, quotas and procedures...tell us which ones...this claim should have some factual backing, wouldn't you think?
The fact that you can't enumerate even one 'violation' tells me you, and a lot of others, are just blowing smoke to maintain a political trope.
Avoiding points of entry designated by the United States is illegal. Several attempts at illegal entry is even more severe. If an illegal is trying to avoid inspection or using a coyote. Smuggling drugs or weapons. Human trafficking. Wasn't Homeland Security mandated to build 700 miles of border fencing? What happened to that? You're the genius. Match the crime with the U.S. code. Now you're going to come back and ask us to prove that any of this is happening. Illegals are getting robbed, raped, kidnapped, murdered, drowned trying to cross illegally. You all A-OK with that my man?
included...have had to face (see linked article)...Democrats, and Biden, are not the cause of all the things you mention...clearly the root of all this lies much deeper in our society...it's about time the RND joins with the DNC to find better means of dealing with it...and as the article shows...it's NOT a Border Wall.
Link: https://www.usatoday.com/border-wall/story/drug-trafficking-smuggling-cartels-tunnels/559814001/
You really didn't want an answer or a two way discussion. You really wanted it to be a one way lecture from you. You would have walked right past any response or challenge and post a link from one of your rags that you already had ready to go. You are not a serious person. You should never be taken serious.
that cartel activity used to be just focused on drugs, but now they've made a business out of smuggling immigrants...started increasing during the Trump administration...do a board search with my name and the word "Laredo"...you'll see more details about that burgeoning business and how difficult it is to stop...e.g. 20,000 semi-trucks per day traveling through Laredo from Mexico...absolutely no way to ferret out all those with immigrants in them...again, it really started taking off during DJT's four years...ever hear him talk about it?
I'll bet you had no clue as to what those articles exposed...try channelling your emotions into research and understanding...at the very least you'll know the proper direction in which to vent your anger.

before responding...I owe them that much so as to understand whatever point they are making...I'm not in the least concerned that their views/links will be different from mine...to the contrary, I'm better able to provide more compelling and supportable replies...sometimes it results in exposing totally erroneous statements by those other posters...the most glaring was Baron's MIT Report on "Masking"...by reading every word of it I showed him, and everyone else here that the report's conclusion was 180 degrees from what he said...that's a service to this board's members.
It doesn't take much additional effort...and helps everyone find the 'truth' more efficiently.
That's not really what you wanted though.
