1 team made it to the sweet 16. Yikes.
I think not only ND was out of gas, but FSU, Duke, Louisville, Miami and Virginia also.

It's not an accident that Meechigan and Wisconsin keep making it this far. Throw in Michigan St. most years. Ditto Ohio State. Painter does an excellent job with Purdue. If IU finds anyone decent, they'll be back in the top 20 year-after-year. Take Northwestern: had they had Dererk Pardon (their true MVP) in their game against ND early in the year, they'd have won by 8-10 points. And they just got into the Tournament.
Most everyone has remarked on how great a move it was for ND into the ACC. I loved the Big East and miss it a lot. There was a bit of a recruiting niche for ND in that league. I'm not seeing it in the ACC.

Three years ago is the year am I thinking of I believe. A bunch of SEC teams lost bowl games and everyone freaked out about how the SEC wasn't the best conference anymore. They are. They just lost a bunch of bowl games that one year. Just because the ACC had a poor showing in the tourney so far it doesn't mean that top to bottom it isn't the best conference. Next year the ACC will be the best conference again just like the SEC is still the best conference in football. Neither is unbeatable but they are both still the best conferences in their respective sports.
"Sure, Alabama has overachieved, but the rest of the conference..."
But if that's your barometer, here's a stat that might give you pause:
2000 MSU is the last time that a team from the B1G won it all, Maryland is the most recent winner of the current B1G (2002).
Since then (2002), teams currently in other conferences:
ACC 6 - UNC(2), Duke(2), SYR, LOU
AAC 3 - UCONN(3)
SEC 3 - FLA(2), KY
BE 1 - VNova
B12 1 - KANS
strength of the Conference was overestimated...especially by commentators toward the end of this particular year.
Louisville (ACC #4), Duke (ACC #6) and FSU (ACC #3) were all upset in the tourney. But no one seems to have noticed that so was Maryland (B1G #2) and Minnesota (B1G #4).
ACC was probably overrated, but B1G still has some catching up to do, that is unless we ignore Duke and NC are ACC teams.
No, Michigan and Wisconsin didn't win their Tournament championship games, but the superiority of the conference, top to bottom, shows at this time of year. The dominance of Duke and UNC doesn't erase what the middle and bottom of the ACC fails to do at this time of year, most every year.
Big 10 has 1 NC in the last 25 years and I'd be surprised if any of their 3 make the final 4 this year.
Sure, let's ignore Duke, NC, Syracuse and Louisville; Big 10 is superior.
I see the football board doesn't have a monopoly on stupid comments.

due is good. ACC is the best just unlucky or they have inconsistent players. VJ Beachem to name one. Big 12 is better than Big 10. West Virginia is very tough and of course Kansas.
Check out their post season record the last 4-5 years.
Indiana, Purdue, Iowa & Maryland or UVA, FSU, ND & WAKE?
Maryland, Minnesota, Nebraska & Penn State or Pitt, Miami, Georgia Tech & NC State?
