And Coach K has been able to mold a bunch of freshmen to beat [badly] a very experienced ND team. Duke absolutely has more talent. But Coach K started out as Brey did. The big difference is that he won, and won, and won, and put himself into a position to recruit the 5 stars. But he won way more than Brey did BEFORE he recruited the 5 stars. We should admit the inconvenient truth - Brey has recruited 5 stars and not gotten them, because, for most of 18 years, his teams have been mediocre. And he is not a great recruiter.
So should Kansas, NC, MSU and Kentucky
Those teams have tons of NBA players.
The rest of the NCAA does not.
Who was the last ND player to make a difference in the NBA?
This should be interesting.
Duke will always have more talent than ND. So comparing blue chip one-and-done players with seniors who are lucky to play in the pros is deliberately misleading. It isn't the coach, but the philosophies of the respective programs.

Take nothing away from the truly amazing improvement in Geben and the grit that Torres has played with (sacrificing his body taking charges). But you cannot compete against the top players in the country and expect to prevail.
Mike does get them to play together and give great effort.
let's see if we can back door the tourney.
As I mentioned, ND just never really gets the athletes. The closest we had was when ND should have beaten Kentucky in the Elite Eight game. Up 61-56 and then Brey decided to take the air out of the ball, resulting in a UK win. (That's really the only criticism I have of Brey's X's and O's coaching.)
