2'nd half was better. VT's 2 bigs were too much. Hubb and Ryan were terrific all game and Laszewski and Goodwin had good 2'nd half's. Perhaps Wesley will come back. If there are too many upsets in the next few days ND might lose out.
to stop the inside game and they just don't have a very strong presence D or O in the paint. The tall guys
are not very athletic. Coupled with the fact they aren't good shooters inside, if they can't dunk it,
they've shown all season there is no putting in the easy inside lay-ups. If their shots aren't falling from
3, they're just a div. 2 school.
a 16 seed at best. Maybe 15 but in the end, they're a one and done even if they draw a lower seeding. I think the NCAA
can see this. I wouldn't be surprised if they're excluded from the tournament. Brey's not a bad coach, he just doesn't
pull in top student athletes. And this group doesn't seem too bright either. Decent effort all season and I applaud this
effort. Good record overall, just not tournament caliber.
are very athletic and he shoots a high percentage and gets his share of rebounds. Our D is better than it has been in a long time and that is due to Cormac Ryan and Blake Wesley being very athletic defenders. We get in trouble when outsized upfront and out "athleted" at the guards. We still can win because we are more consistent shooters than in the past and move the ball well. Foolish plays cost us too.
in the committee's eyes tonight. Indiana won today, TCU, Wyoming and Boise St all won. That's a lot of teams that were behind ND on the entry list.
weaknesses. Hubb is erratic, Goodwin gets used all the time by better athletes. I still have some faith though that they can play well enough as a team to do well. They did come back against a team that was a preseason ranked team. I did not see the first half. Did Wesley struggle the whole game because to see him riding the bench at crunch time tells me he was not ready.
Goodwin needs to stop being so lazy on defense. Maybe it isn't all his fault. Perhaps he was exhausted.
It would really help if ND could play more than 7 guys per game PER SEASON!
That's on Brey & he won't change.
The metrics the committee looks at aren't really good. Their Ken Pom and NET before tonight was 51. They have good wins against UNC, Kentucky and Miami. A bad losses to BC and FL. State. They played well against some good teams, but that won't count. They probably are a 12 seed now, but a lot of teams probably will move by them by Sunday and a few already did today.
Joe Lunardi had Notre Dame as (how to describe this?) as not one of the last four in but in the next group of four. And he had Virginia Tech as in the next four out.
This was a bad loss. And they're ranked 51st by Sagarin, which is not good for an at-large team. NIT is more likely than not at this point.
I agree they will get in. The second place regular season ACC team will get in. Hubb can be erratic and Goodwin takes his share of abuse playing defense but.. in tonight's game Atkinson and Wesley were the weak links. 4 players came close to bringing ND all the way back in the second half.
