Kelly stated not to pay attention to the depth chart, because it will change often.
The first team and second team will play a lot, and even the third team will see the field. Kelly will rotate in players all over the place. I don't believe there's an actual depth chart at running back for example, so everyone should refrain from freaking out that Hughes is listed at #2.
Kelly: most fluctuations to depth chart will be on O-Line and at Safety
These are the areas of greatest competition per Kelly
The battles are at center, both tackles, both safeties, and at the MLB spot opposite Te'o.

This one scares me.
I don't care what kind of offense you run, Tackles are important. I'm sure these guys have talent. But going into a season with little-to-no experience at OT is a concern.

yeah, this is not giving a warm and fuzzy feeling...I see Crist running for his life....we need to run a 2 back set and keep Hughes in the backfield to help out with guys that get through
We have heard a lot of good things
about Zach Martin but I do agree, the names don't make me feel tingly since they have limited experience.
Based on the way Young and Duncan played last year, performance at OT has no where to go but up
At least in regard to pass protection (see a clip of the Navy DE's running circles around Duncan and Young at the end of the game), run blocking wasn't horrible. Hopefully these guys will have better footwork

See the discussion yesterday about tackles. As I said then, I think Pitt will feast on them unless Kelly has a masterful plan.
I agree with you about Romeus and Sheard
Romeus a potential top 10 selection in the next draft and probably the best defensive player that ND will face this year. Sheard is a great compliment to Romeus and has NFL caliber talent. Romeus absolutely manhandled a 5th year senior in Duncan (killed him every time with a quick first step) and Young struggled as well. Replacing them with 2 new starters will be interesting, but it will benefit us if the new OT's have better footwork and quicker foot speed (haven't seen any tape on them yet). I expect a loss to Pitt barring a herculean effort by our front 7 to shut down Dion Lewis and solid coverage by the DB’s on Baldwin.

I caught that comment about Nix's weight. I'm not sure that at 6-3, Nix should be confined to "290 or 300," as Diaco suggested is ideal for a college NT. I guess we'll see.
If he redshirts, I think that is a really positive sign that Cwynar and Stockton are contributing. I have high hopes for Stockton.
I think the point was the extra 30 lbs he put on since signing isn't muscle.
Basically he's a fat ass and Longo and the nutrition staff are now embarking on a long recovery program.

Hughes is one of the few players with a combined bench+ squat over 1000 lbs.
Good athlete for one of the strongest players on the team. Feed him the ball, especially late in the game with the lead.
