AH, Neither were available for Stanford game for AH to handoff to.
"For comparison's sake, take the Andrew Hendrix versus Stanford performance that is generally used as an argument for why he should play: the running game absolutely stalled, because once he was set in a play call, he just simply isn't ready to change it at the line of scrimmage."
Rees's decision making appeared to get worse as the season wore as the speed of the game increased > turnover after turnover bad play after bad play.
which are worth exactly nothing.
There is QB talent on this team.....something every fan wants to see.
Kelly's future depends on the position providing outstanding play....so who should make that decision other than him? No one.
There will be a talented QB under center against Navy...and more talent ready to take the reins. Rees has provided about as much success as anyone can expect from his first two years and is bigger, smarter, stronger, and more prepared than at any time.
If any of other QBs can beat him out, it should be a good thing for this team. I have no favorite as all 4 have intriguing talents and varied skills. One thing for certain, you won't see a sr. QB under center who has proven to All-American skills. But, whoever that is will have my support, as do all the players and coaches all the time....until they are no longer players and coaches. The situation will provide interest and entertainment enough, ND will win and lose games, and world strife will continue.

No way, we need to decide this here and now.

My old pappy is a nice guy ... but he sure never will be what Kelly needs as a QB!
The number of people in this thread who are hating on Tommy, yet supported him ALL season (including those who shouted me down when I said he should have been pulled mid-season), is simply amazing to me.
What a disaster he was last season. It's okay though, Chrisb has his back.
We should have better options this year. Last year (after Dayne flopped), Tommy was the best choice. IT wasn't ideal, but that was the hand Kelly was dealt.
Fortunately, we will be in better shape in 2012 with both Hendrix and Golson ready to play.
Evan Sharpley would have started last year.
Because the guy that many believe was the best choice was benched after the 1st half of the 1st game and didn't see very much action the rest of the season. Crist may not have been a great QB but I still think he would have been a better choice than Rees.
I don't know how many times that could have been made obvious.
...and I never once heard a Crist apologist say that Jones got a raw deal.

Great kid, not a great QB. After he flops at KU this year I hope it shuts NDNation up.

Poor kid never got his shot.
I can't believe people still believe this. It's not even worth arguing anymore

Enough better to keep the starting job against a guy he beat out last year and a couple guys who have never taken a snap at the college level? Guess we will see when the offense goes onto the field vs The University of Navy.
his lack of foot speed along with a tendency to throw into double coverage killed ND last year. He is a good backup qb - that is all. Hendrix will start - he a dual threat which is critical to the offense.

But we might confuse people who think we just hate trees.
Everybody says Tommy Rees worships satan, lights cats on fire, sponsors Al Queda, and doesn't believe in Heaven.
Personally I just think he's a horrible quarterback and there is absolutely nothing he can do to help this football team win.
So I'll just leave it at that.
what an a-hole.

The question is whether we have an ANdrew Luck or not.

I guess him not being a D1 qb of any shape or form is plain dumb. Again, not a fan of his style but 12-4 means he can at least play at this level. Least make some credible argument if you have one.
And every minute ND delays in playing a qb who can means the sooner ND will be looking for a new coach.
I bet 90% of this board respects and sdmires Rees for what he has done thus far at ND. But the fact remains he neither has the arm strength(and will never have it no matter how much iron he pumps) nor the mobility to run a NC caliber offense. That combination is deadly.
I'll take my chances that whoever is qb will pose more of an offensive threat, throw no more key interceptions and offers more big play potential that Rees.
well-stated - Tommy makes a great second-string qb but cannot take ND to where ND claims they want to go...Kelly's choice of qb (and abiity to retain stud recruits) will certainly determine if he is the ND coach two years from now.

He also fumbled the ball numerous times. I'm a little sick of the 12-4 record baloney, as if the wins were attributed to Rees. I think we all know better.
his lack speed is awful...cannot avoid a rush and make a first down - that kills the team drives. I fear Kelly will give Tommy the start and that will not end well. I say start Hendrix and, if he struggles, bring in Rees. If Kelly starts Rees, it means he is mortgaging the future. Come on coach, step-up!
Well I have news for ya. You can have all the experience and knowledge of the playbook you want but if you can't physically carry out your reads then it's useless. Perfect example during the Stanford game. I believe we are at about the 5 yd line and Tommy sees some green in front of him, makes the right read to go ahead and run it in, and is tackled from behind due to his ;ack of speed and athleticism. This is why we need to immediatly get talented player the reps and experience before we waste yet another year trying to develop tommy.

For Navy, to start:... a veteran, steady and confident QB, or a first time starter, with jitters, very excited, highly motivated with adrenal running high? I say Tommy starts and Hendrix enters soon. We will know Coach Kelly's true ,not media stuff, decisions and plans in a few months.
Notre Dame should be able to start a dead sloth at QB and still beat Navy. There is no excuse to lose to them. Ever.
ridiculous

What a collection of bullshit "facts." The only fact related to Tommy is his ability to turn the ball over. That's why he'll never start again.

If turnovers were his only problem, I wouldn't have as big a problem with him because I think he can overcome that. It's Tommy's physical ability limits us. He doesn't have 'escapability' which is something that Kelly really wants in his QB and he doesn't have the arm strength to stretch the field vertically, which is also something Kelly wants to do.
for the spread offense he is a square peg in a round hole. He lacks the mobility necessary to run this offense adequately.
