What a bunch of clowns.
"Coach Bob Stoops is asking Oklahoma football fans to break a new tradition and sing the proper words at the end of the national anthem when Air Force plays at Owen Field on Saturday."
"Many fans have taken to shouting "home of the Sooners" instead of "home of the brave" at the conclusion of the song."
"Stoops issued a challenge Tuesday that "hopefully with our people being here and Air Force coming here, we'll surely be loud in singing 'home of the brave' and nothing else."

so what?
I'm a veteran...and think it doesn't matter or they haven't done anything wrong.
I also commmend Stoops for doing this...as it exhibits some respect for the Air Force Academy team and students that will be in attendance (I'm also an Air Force Academy grad...so Go Falcons!! against OU this weekend).

Enough said.

Why would you go see Oklahoma?
And that saying "Sooners" is sacrilege.
Should Orioles fans stop emphasizing the O, too? Is that not patriotically correct?
I think it is appropriate every time to sing the national anthem correctly, but especially around service men. His comment is commendable and here people are making fun of him for it.
99.9% of the other teams in the country already do so. The fact that they get their kicks out of singing "Home of the Sooners" and Stoops has to remind them not to be idiots is nothing to commend him on.
It was like Ohio State asking the fans not to boo Navy when the parade of Midshipmen came out. Everyone else had common sense and kind of already did that anyway. No gold star for Ohio State.
Now if only they all swayed together at the end to the alma mater this talk could all be avoided.
there is no such thing as "orioles fans"

That would be like UAlbany beating Boston College for me.
Can't say i know a single person from JMU or VT up here. That only goes so far...
I want to punch people in the face who don't have enough respect to stand their fat asses up during it or take off their hats. Just ask Rosanne what happens when you mock the importance of the song. If you are not a vet I guess you would not understand.
You are 100% correct. Thank you for serving our country
I doubt you served in order to assure that the national anthem is always sung whole.
It's not like the put profanity in it or something.
Did you read that part of his post, Chrissy? I'll tell you this, if you or some other liberal pussy mocks the National Anthem with me present, you would surely get an "on the spot correction!" BELEE DAT, BIATCH!
Saying "home of the Sooners" rather than "home of the brave" is not disrespecting anything or anybody. It's just a little hometown pride thing.
If you take offense at that, then you are wrapped a bit too tight.
stands. They should sing the correct verses out of respect for their country, not because they served in the military.
and it looks like I can grasp the concept of singing the National Anthem a lot better than you. Substituting the words is disrespectful no matter how you look at it. As a vet, I am more sensitive to it than a non vet. Is that easy enough for you to comprehend?
You are not more American than anyone on this board. Except the Canucks. But that goes without saying.
Having been a soldier doesn't make you any more or less an American than anyone else. If you think it does, then you should have joined a different country's army.
dumb ass!.. I know what I fought for, but I still don't like idiot hicks desecrating the National Anthem.
Sounds like you've got a lot of pent up hate for your fellow Americans. Sad to see a vet that thinks he's better than the rest of the country.
dumb ass. You idiot fuck liberals take yourselves too seriously. FYI, I am better than the majority of the country, but that's just my opinion.
Vets serve so you can continue going through life being a douche. I would not advise disrespecting them, especially in public.
who views the world in an Obamaesque cocktail party manner. Reverence for the Anthem is for the small minded, bitter people.
especially since the star spangled banner is just an old english drinking song.
but I tend to agree that changing the lyrics of the anthem is stupid and disrespectful.
