surprise, because I figure he should be way out of the top 100.
Actually I am surprised. I just never knew. I figured he was in the top 20.

which does not include his bonuses, endorsements and other compensation. Anyway, he is the coach for 2017- get over it.

As an example of outside money, Holtz was $15K ($25K in the NC championship year) plus first class tickets for he and his wife to give a talk to a group. My company had him in Hawaii in the early '90's. ND coaches can give as many speeches as they want out of season. He also gets paid for those radio/TV shows he does for WNDU and appearances on ESPN and others. Dick Corbett gave school $10M to endow the Head Coaching position, the proceeds of which go to Kelly. Add in endorsement for clothes and other things and the money mounts up. None of this is reported since ND is a private school.

"The numbers in Kelly’s contract are manipulated, because as a private school, Notre Dame does not want a paper trail that shows a football coach among the highest paid employees.
As in past years, Notre Dame's federal tax return notes that Kelly is permitted to receive compensation from sources outside the university "with prior written approval from the university" and that any such income is not reported on the return.
When Charlie Weis was fired after the 2009 season, he told the South Bend Tribune that a significant amount of his compensation came through adidas, and another large portion from Notre Dame Sports Properties, for his radio and TV shows. It is very likely that Kelly’s deal with Notre Dame includes similar clauses."

Div-1, but the HIGHEST income. This was because, at the time, ND would not pay a coach more than highest paid professor. I believe his ND salary was 85,000 at the beginning, and went up to maybe 125,000 or something similar. But he was raking it in from Reebok, - TV/Radio - and his gig with Washington Speakers Bureau.
