Grad transfer with 2 years eligibility remaining. He didn't play in 2016 after seeing limited time in 2014 & 2015. Hope he is healthy and can contribute.

With Torii Hunter gone, there won't be any seniors so this gives Notre Dame some more experience in the wide receiving meeting room. He's got some pretty good top end speed too so gives Notre Dame some flexibility with Stepherson since Stepherson is the only burner in the corps right now.

And his dad told Irish Illustrated yesterday according to their Facebook page that he is coming as a WR.
Last year Kelly played 8 guys at WR. All years he's played 6-8 guys.
Right now ND has 6 guys that have played WR:
ESB
Boykin
Claypool
Sanders
Finke
Stepherson
They also have McKinley (who is coming back from a bad injury) and 2 true freshmen, neither of which will be here in the spring.
The depth chart definitely needed 1 more guy, especially that could play the X position (which lost Hunter and Holmes).
Conversely ND has Watkins, Crawford, Love, Vaughn, and Pride at CB, not to mention White and Coleman (who are rumored to be moving to safety).
CB will be a major need in the 2018 recruiting class, but is not a need for the 2017 season.

Yes that is just a joke.
ND usually grants any release, but not to future opponents.
My friend who is a GA on UM's staff said great guy and yes, a speed burner when healthy

There was some buzz about a talented 5th year guy who we had a shot at that would take a couple of weeks--from signing day--to resolve.
I hope this isn't who he was referring to.
Now way he leaves UM of he's healthy and talented.

IMO that this is ND's version of a JC transfer and can be used to good effect if he stays healthy. He was a WR in '14 and then was being groomed as a CB in '15 before injury. Sat out last year to save a year. He could be very valuable to us. If he is good enough to win a starting or backup CB, great. He could always be returned to WR if necessary. But one of our shortcomings on special teams is that we don't use enough starters and veterans on the kick teams to provide coverage experience. Polian said that would change. Canteen could be ideal as the "gunner" on the kick team and "safety" on the kickoff team. Maybe even the ST captain. 4* star recruits must have something to offer. Could be his ticket to the NFL. We can get more out of him than we were getting from Brent.

he didn't fit their system & maybe he didn't get along with Harbaugh, & maybe he has talent but so did the guy ahead of him, and maybe he sucks.
Regardless, it's depth, and he's not a freshman. He also seems completely bought in. I's take this as a mild positive, but a positive.
walking wounded grad transfers. Not an impressive offering list, UConn, Temple, Rutgers and TN. Let's see what Kelly can do.
IF there is one thing BK does well is get WRs the ball. Harbaugh hasn't ever been about that...and the year prior to Harbuagh was his freshman year under a coach who was on his way out. Not too hard to figure how this came to be...
