Link: Notre Dame's Big Buck Hunters: Tevon Coney vs. Greer Martini
They elected him captain, and unless Coney is markedly better in the spring and fall, which I don't expect to be the case, Martini will be out there first. I wonder if we will see a platoon system a la Dan Fox and Carlo Calabrese when those two guys combined for about 120 tackles in 2012 playing next to Te'o.
The biggest question to me is where Bilal fits in and how much time he will get and what his role will be. I just don't see him being the ROVER on a permanent basis and how many snaps will be available to him at BUCK?
I think we'll see some game based personnel groupings - but not specific situational groupings like BVG went overboard with.
IE against those teams that really wanna run we'll see Martini at BUCK, Bilal at ROVER, and Tranquil at SS. Against teams that want to spread it out more we may see Tranquill at the ROVER and Coney at the BUCK.
Still think Coney is the "starter" at BUCK though. Martini has a specific skillset while Coney has a much, much higher ceiling.
40% of his 116 career tackles have come in the five games against Navy, Georgia Tech, and Army.
9.2 tackles per game against the option.
2.1 in all other games.
Did I just make your point? Yes I did.
Do I stand by that Martini will start? Yes I do.
