it's another example of why ND cannot compete at the upper echelon any longer. They simply cannot recruit the players they need, at critical positions, that will allow them to compete. Corners are a critical need on this team, the door is wide open for recruits, we still can't get what we need.
This is a huge loss.
Schools that are trying to recruit him away from ND were giving him more attention? Michigan also didn't give him enough attention? Uh, okay. I wish him well.
that he comes across as extremely high maintenance, and not likely to make it through 4 years at ND.
I might watch them next year, but without Gerson, maybe not. Another nail in our coffin. At least he skillfully articulated his alternative choices, and the main points of his problem with ND. He gave a pretty devastating critique of all that is wrong with the current regime, I think. Hope other athletes aren't able to read his incisive comments.

My guess is that some of the coaches promised him everything he wanted to hear, such as he'd start from day one, he wouldn't be turned into a linebacker (yes, coaches will use that line), etc.

type have not proven out.
They didn't sign any last cycle. They currently have none this cycle. That could change, but he was a priority target for them and now he's out of the class. There could be any number of reasons why, but whatever the reason they are shorthanded again at corner.
They are said to be in good position for Houston Griffith out of IMG, where they've had lot more success than Cass Tech, but if they miss on him the chances of getting a high profile player at the position narrow pretty quickly.
Of course I don't know if he'll stick to signing day either.
Corner is the most important position in the class this cycle. 9 months to go, but not a positive development.
Always felt weird about Gervin and Allen because of the surprise of their commitments and they are off profile for what Notre Dame usually gets. Cass Tech has been a big failing ground forever, and Notre Dame almost never gets Georgia players. Allen is my favorite player in the class so hope they hang on with him.
Also, I don't buy the "they didn't recruit me very hard" one bit from Gervin. It's been three months since he committed. The only way that's possible is if there was some other issue that caused them to back off. The idea Notre Dame would slow play a player of his caliber at that position is non-sensical.
I believe ND had just visited him and was scheduled to visit him again. A rival coach probably told him..."ND should be recruiting you harder", and he bought it.
Regarding Allen, I think he could end up at CB for ND regardless of need, but probably a boundary CB (where Watkins and Vaughn play), whereas Gervin is a field CB (Love, Pride). ND still needs a field CB in this class.
He was already 5' 11" coming out of high school, and ran a sub 4.40. With proper S&C, he could have been a strong CB who wouldn't get pushed around by some of those big receivers.
That, plus he looked pretty polished already.
not just to us. Sounds like it could have been grades, but don't know.
It's the Fresno of the midwest. ND should put its resources elsewhere.
