playing Navy every year has its costs. I think we should continue playing them, but not every year. I d like to see us continue the series along with Army, maybe play Navy more but spice in Army. We have a great history with Army and I understand the whole Navy series with the ROTC saving Notre Dame, but we have magnified their program through the years and the results are pretty clear with everyone they play it takes something out of the opponent the following week. ( Ohio state national title team playing Virginia tech the week after navy).
If we do play them, we should schedule a bye week.
Is southern Cal magically the team of the west historically or have we magnified them through the years?
Is Stanford all of a sudden a power or is it the Notre Dame series that has elevated them over the past 20 years when we started playing?
I think it's time to schedule better, playing Stanford the week after navy is a hidden scheduling problem for Brian and the staff.
Despite VG coaches like Green, Harbaugh, Walsh, Warner, Elway, and Shaw, and elite players at every position over the years, they haven't even played for the NC in anyone's memory (altho they have contended in some seasons). It mystifies me as to why. Perhaps it is the uneven support they get from their fans (unless it's USC, Cal or ND in town). Ultimately I think it's the culture in Palo Alto, and I don't mean that as disparaging. I think that whole area for many years has been more pro-oriented. And you can't blame them. Now when it comes to Olympic sports it is a whole different animal.
this year....
once the NFL moves back into town... and all the celebs desert the decrepit old Coliseum for the brand new Rams stadium. Before the Rams left, the Irish regularly destroyed SC.
