All these kids are still on scholarship at Notre Dame and Weishar specifically said he is coming back for a 5th year back in December already so this one is particularly asinine.
I also disagree with the postulate that Keyes will be are only other get. When the identities of our new safety and OL coaches are known , I wouldn't be shocked if we picked up another DB and OL. Plus Denson has his RB guy and Autry is virtually automatic.
Cole, Wright and even Mack (with his stone hands) are all likely to pass Nic on the depth chart despite Weishar's experience.
I had forgotten about DJ Morgan until I read that article. I remember Elko giving Morgan a good deal of praise after the Spring practices had ended- of course he goes on the ride the bench during the 2017 season.

If Weishar is not going to start at ND, he sure isn't going to get drafted. Why go to another school, take some meaningless courses, and play with a second rate team? He stays at ND he will get some playing time, be a team leader, travel with the team to great venues, get to take ND graduate courses which could lead to full-time acceptance to grad school and get one more year to enjoy being an ND student. He will appreciate the latter 40 years from now.
- He might believe that with a really good year he might have a chance to get into the pro's, but not believe that is possible at ND
- because he might not get enough PT even if he is the starter since there are so many TE's at ND, and
- because he might think ND's offense is trending more run heavy and not showcase his talents enough
- because he doesn't think ND's QB's will be good enough to allow him to have the year he would need.
- He might want to leave just to be a more focal point of an offense even if he doesn't see playing in the league as a likely option
- He might have some kind of beef with the coaches
- He might want a graduate degree that ND doesn't offer
- He might want to have a year in college where there are pretty girls and it isn't cold as fuck for half the year.
