They are now the third best team in a City that really has a lot more going on than football. Their Conference is now second rate. Their coach is a milktoast. There most famous former player is OJ. What gives them a reason to be optimistic?
10, 2015 #2. They are in the top 5 in position of need which they say teams need to be for a consistent chance at the NC. Compared to ND in total O in 2017, usc 13th - ND 27, total D usc ? ND ranked 48th. Not sure what your perception of of being “recevived” is but they seem to be going in the right direction. I would love to see ND recruite in the top 5 on a more consistent basis to add depth. We don’t have many 4 & 5 star players let alone 4’s to back them up.
Better question, can ND ever be revived in the next 10 plus years on a year in - year out basis?

Coaching there must blow to beat the band. Recruits we can only dream of, and their program has done way less than they should have, huh?
They still grab the glamor positions but not the hogs. You don’t win National Champiinships without controlling the line of scrimmage.

With all of that sheer talent on the team, along with the fact that they played in NY6 bowls back to back (including a Rose Bowl win), I'd say that they're certainly a threat to knock anyone off the perch on any given day. The only question for this year would be at the QB position, but J.T. Daniels looks to be highly polished coming out of high school.
Last year, they had one bad game during the regular season, and if it weren't for some freakishly bad luck against a very good Washington State team, could have went into the post-season with only one loss.
The Trojan line play is second rate compared to the top ten schools, including the Irish. There are no Anthony Munoz type players in that program.
ND is constantly accused of being over rated but I think Southern Cal fits that description more. Supposedly a roster filled with 4 and 5 star recruits. A QB who will be going from LA straight to Canton. Yet despite all the hype they are a 8 to 10 win team every year.

They were 4th nationally in recruiting. They always seem to do well but there seems to be an "I" mentality there. Recently they have made large inroads into Samoan community. Look at 2018 class. By the way, I hate them more than any team in America. I almost got beat up once when someone asked me, "Who would USC have to be playing for you to root for USC.?" I said, "maybe the Taliban."
And they've been better in that lifespan ..
