The subject matter is disgusting, but I managed to sit through it. Thought it was a pretty accurate depiction of the dude.

I’ll start by saying it is a fictional account of the two weeks surrounding story breaking—it is not a documentary.
My wife came away feeling sorry for JoePa. Thought he did the right thing, but was a scapegoat for the administration and the media. Thought the way they treated him “killed him.”
I found it difficult to believe JoePa didn’t know what was going on, and I’m still shocked he never followed up after reporting things to his superiors. But then again I watched the movie with that preconceived bias.
that Jerry was abusing ?

...Is that Joe Pa - who I guess was the most visible target - got vilified while his superiors got to drag out court proceedings for years to finally get a slap on the wrist. Spanier was still on the taxpayer dime to the tune of 600k/year until 2016. I admit Paterno deserved it, but this was a group effort.

up, and Roy Williams is right there too.
Both are massive hypocrites when it comes to running their programs and the feed their egos demands.
Just look at how K has "evolved" his one-and-done recruiting because all he cares about is HIS basketball program winning and doesn't give a shit anymore about developing young men given, as one example, his enabling of Grayson Allen behavior because he was a great player until he was forced to deal with it.
A remember a few years ago when the media took shots at the breaks Duke used to get from the refs with a 'we don't get any breaks' response despite his constant intimidation, threatening and haranguing (ala John Wooden) of them while his fellow coaches in the ACC just rolled their eyes.

people play basketball. Lets get some perspective.
You're the who leapt to the connection.

The parallel was to the cult of personality around the two guys and what massive hypocrites they became. I never mentioned Sandusky. I didn't make the initial comparison to Coach K. You interpreted my post to your own purposes. I guessing you are a huge Coach K fan.
Fact is I have a good friend who I met in grad school at ND who was a PSU undergrad with his son being a PSU grad as well. We have had frequent conversations over the year re: the massive difference between how Ara was viewed and treated at ND vs how JoePa was viewed and treated by the PSU faithful. Like me, he worked in the PSU Athletic Department so he knew a lot of the inner workings there.
Over the years he was become much less of a JoePa fan (long before the Sandusky thing) very much due to what he described the "cult of personality" re: JoePa and how he used it over the years to his personal advantage to get his way. In a conversation a couple of years ago at an ND game we talked about Grayson Allen and Coach K's enabling of him what he saw as a very similar cult of personality at Duke re: Coach K.
