As so many have pointed out, IT'S APRIL.
Many have pointed out it's early in the process and they are correct. I'd also expect some commitments coming soon that will boost the ranking. But, if you look at the offer list and who Notre Dame leads for, it's pretty dire at the moment. It also seems they are going to miss on a few prospects who they were leading for. Kenyatta Watkins, Chez Melusi, Nana Mensah all looked like Notre Dame guys a month ago, Melusi is now gone and I'd be surprised if they got the other two.
The state of play right now shows Notre Dame's ceiling this year around #15 nationally. They need running backs and can't find traction anywhere. It's becoming a concern.
Stanford and USC are at #63 and #65 respectively -- both behind Appalachian State. If ND is struggling come October, or even September, I'll take note.
I don’t care about the ranking. I care about who is interested and who is looking likely. Right now, it doesn’t look good. It could change. I hope it does. I’m just concerned about it.
Anyone could look at USC, Stanford, or Penn State . . . all national powers who expect good recruiting . . . and wet their pants over a lack of recruiting success at this point. How could a recruiting power like USC be ranked #65? Oh no! Of course, most would realize it is only APRIL and that the trajectory of recruiting can change quickly. And frequently does. Like I wrote, if ND is struggling in recruiting when we get closer to a signing day . . . I'll take note. In April, . . . it's nearly meaningless.
It’s fine for anyone to take your position of wait and see. It’s early as you say.
All I’m really saying is the picture is murkier at this time than it has been in the past. And i don’t think it’s out of bounds for someone to point that out or dismiss it out of hand.
I don’t follow recruiting for any other school ranked low right now, I just follow Notre Dame, and this year is a little different than in the past for them. Maybe some of those schools should be concerned, maybe some shouldn’t. I don’t know.
The headline of the thread specifically referenced the rankings. I've taken it into consideration. The situation is "murkier?" Okay. If you think that sets a "ceiling" for recruiting this year, I'll disagree. It's too early for me to worry about how recruiting is going, whether looking at rankings or specific developments or general murkiness. It's no different than when ND was killing it in early recruiting last cycle . . . it was too early to set a ceiling or a floor because ND had one of the top classes -- meaning it was landing players and winning battles -- in the spring.
I am looking at the overall board, plus commits, plus trends, plus past performance in recruiting. You are arguing none of that stuff matters because it’s April.
We can leave it there.
. . . . out over the rankings, which are a gauge of current position. It's different flavors of the same drink. If you don't like it, . . fine. But I will continue to disagree with you that any of this . . .overall boards, trends, commits, history, etc. . . . amounts to anything of concern in April. And it certainly doesn't set a "ceiling" (or a floor) for recruiting.

on those two. It seems we are striking out at a very high rate, at least at RB?
Do you people really not get this?

We're really gonna suck then. Thanks for the heads up, so we can start bitching and whining early!

shame because it's a good platform, but OFD has the losers. I'm about to subscribe to the Athletic
