A great rule change for everyone. I think pretty much guarantees Phil Jurkovec plays next year.

I was very skeptical due to the reps issue. How do they get him the reps he'd need to be ready?
But, with this new rule, I'm not sure they can simply kick him down to the scout team for the year. They can get him ready to play in a game. I still think reps are the biggest obstacle. They have to prepare Wimbush and Book to play and win games. The third team guy can't be a hinderance to the team winning games.
At the very least they have to play him this season at some point. They'd be crazy not to. And there is a situation where Notre Dame is 5-3 or something and you let him start a game late in the season (in which case it'd be REALLY nice to have that Syracuse game at home).
He only gets playing time if Wimbush stinks or he earns it
He isn't going to get playing time just to give him playing time. There is no point in making an effort to giving him pointless snaps in garbage time.
Don't forget, Wimbush has two years left. If Wimbush is better than he has been and plays to his reputed ability or if Jurkovec is better than both Wimbush and Book, Jurkovec isn't going to see any important snaps in 2018.
