Last year Stepherson's suspension was not formally announced.
And from what I have read, in the public practices, Williams was not working with the 1st/2nd teams much if at all. Similar situation with Stephenson last year, That is about as much clarity as you are going to get.

A second positive test for marijuana, for example, by either ND or NCAA mandated testing of an athlete results in suspension for 1/3 of the regular seasin which means 4 games for football. If that is the case the only thing we would see is that he does not participate in those games. I hope it is not true or can be successfully appealed but the fewer reps he gets in fall practise the less likely that seems.

I've been wondering why DW couldn't play vs Michigan and then have to sit in the next four games. Here's why:
1. Four games are four games in terms of the penalty on the player. For DW, being out four games, any four games, will hurt his stats and hurt his prospects for the NFL draft.
2. Holding him out against Michigan seems to hurt ND more than it hurts the player. Why should ND have to pay such a big price if it has no culpability for DW's situation? Given that he suffers the same penalty no matter which four games he has to sit out, I think it's more equitable for him to be allowed on the field in this all-so-important home opener.
Of course, the rule/policy may require the first four consecutive games after the player is found liable. If not, however, I think he should be allowed to play vs Michigan
I realize my thoughts are certainly debatable and I would appreciate hearing any opposing views.
GO IRISH!
It says ban for 33% of championship segment plus a year probation. I’m sure there is probably additional guidance on how that ban is to be applied. I think it would be stupid to let the coaches pick and choose which games. I still think the only way for him to get out of it would be a successful appeal of the suspension, but we don’t even know if he has appealed. In fact we don’t even know if he is being suspended.

How about a 2 year jail sentence?
May I do it 2 months at a time over a 12 year period.
Why not let ND space the 4 games throughout the season. Every 3rd or 4th game against a lesser opponent?
Of course, we want him vs. UM in the opener.
Funny shit
It's a 4-game ban whether or not the games are consecutive. We're not dealing with a criminal sentence imposed by a court----indeed, many courts allow minor offenders out during the day to go to work, etc. so as not to penalize the offender's family. If there is a policy or written rule at ND that the ban must be for consecutive games, so be it. If not, there is room for discretion and equity. The effect on the player is the same whether or not the games are consecutive. I agree that the ban should not only be for "safe" games. This is a unique situation, however, and the sanction can be designed so as not to hurt ND (as opposed to the player) more than it has to.
Still hilarious!
