I noticed today that Vandy is rated No. 19 in the country for total defense. And, is not in the Top 50 for total offense. And, all the concern seems to be for their QB Shurmur.
Something wrong here??
From the stats, need to look for a low scoring defensive effort by both teams.....ND 27 Vandy 17/
I'm not saying Vanderbilt has a terrible defense but they have yet to be tested against the likes of Middle Tennessee State and Nevada. To put this in some perspective, Vanderbilt's defense last year gave up over 40 pts per game once they entered into SEC play. They may be improved on D, but don't let the #19 ranking fool you. On a side note, however, Mason comes from the David Shaw coaching tree. David Shaw has owned Brian Kelly the past 8 seasons. I have zero doubt that Mason and Shaw have spoken to each other at some point regarding this game. Mason knows what Kelly likes to do. There will be no mystery since he coached with Shaw at Stanford.
They must do something right offensively
Doing it against “air” doesn’t count

Of course, that's against MTSU and Nevada so who knows.
Wimbush has a higher YPA (and total yards) than Shurmur, but Shurmur doesn't have any picks.
Tony Jones Jr. Has similar rush yards, carries and the dame number of TDs as Vaughn.
Boykin has better stats than Lipscomb.
I look for ND to let BW run free and that will open things up for the rest of the offense. I think that all of the hand-wringing will have been for nothing. The Irish win comfortably. The worst thing that could have happened for Vandy is our struggles last week.

Great point. Wendy's players are going to watch video of the game and see the score. Great advantage:ND.
