I'm impressed with the defense, Book and Dex, but until I see Kelly under the lights in a big must win, I reserve doubts.

If ND doesn't win by atleast 20, Kelly should hitch hike home.

Brandon Wimbush did. He was scared and the full-blown anxiety I believe he has was in full force. He was about as effective as having an average high school QB playing for us.
Saturday night will be different. Ian Book is one cool customer. I expect Virginia Tech to come out firing on all cylinders, but so should the Irish.
Eventually we would have worn them down and we never would have turned the ball over.
It ranks right up there with his gameplan at NC State.

Who else were they gonna play at QB? Book threw a pick-6, if I remember correctly, and he wasn't what he is now. Wimbush played so poorly that the offense had no chance and it put too much pressure on the defense.

I see the ND D as a different animal this year. My thoughts aren't that the O will be overwhelming VT, I think it's the Defense. Their on a different plain than the O. The O with Book is just trying to catch up to that level of play.
I saw some of this last year with the LSU game (second half) where the D wanted it more than anything and finished the game that way. I believe I'm seeing that kind of play now and with the O backing up the D play by scoring has given them more confidence and more tenacity. I have not seen ND's D like this since the Holtz era the behavior on the field of "I want it".
With Book the D is not on the field nearly as many minutes, and is much more effective late in the game.

...with a brutal looking win against BC, then finished the job against Stanford.
(I'll stop being record police now.)
That one was too easy for you. You're better than that.
