what are the alternatives? Every year I watch the academies and other smaller MAC schools compete against larger and stronger defenses. So the blocking schemes are important to establishing a running game with quick hitters, or draws and to keep Book from getting hammered on passing plays. Sometimes you have to understand you are a year or two away. But hopefully, they will, for the first time in many years, understand that the current talent and experience doesn't exist and come up with new blocking schemes to offset the weakness. We will see. Most smaller less talented school and their coaches understand their weaknesses, Kelly and his coaches don't seem to respond well in covering those weaknesses. If every team stacks the box to close down the run and pressure Book, what will be their response? Judging from the last game I'm not convinced they have a solution.
Notre Dame wasn't a heavy RPO team under Wimbush, more zone read. Pulling the ball then deciding whether to run or throw it out wasn't really his game, especially since he's not accurate. Last year they were 30-41 for 121 yards (2.9 yards per attempt), and no TD's on throws at or behind the LOS. But, that was ok because there were easy yards in the run game. Hence the zone read.
This year the easy yards in the run game haven't really been there, so they just shifted strategies. Book so far is 27/28, 203 yards (7.2 YPA), and a touchdown on throws at or behind the LOS. Just like a MAC school would do.
And we should destroy Navy with it.
Tony Rice did not just walk on the field and start making instantaneous decisions.

look how long it's taking him to make the decision to transfer.
Funny. But, everything I have read about Brandon is that he is not the transfer type. And for that I do feel bad for him, but deserve's got nothing to do with it.
Good point.....It wasn't....Wow how quickly people forget how Wimbush struggled with the demands of the QB position... decisions, progressions, locking on to one receiver.... accuracy.... offense was slow motion....
He was taking too long to look for the passing options, and often times, didn't see many an open receiver, and by that time, the run option was not viable.
If he were in a triple option offense, he would be basically looking at only two dimensions instead of three (lack of downfield passing), and I'm sure he'd flourish. Even a run-first spread option offense that Rich Rodriguez used in West Virginia could be a nice fit for him.
Bottom line is this: He's simply not a good fit for Brian Kelly's hybrid pro-style / spread offense. He doesn't have the accuracy, and can't see the open receivers. I really, really wish that he could have fixed his accuracy issues in the spring, as that would have opened up every last page of the playbook with his amazing athleticism, but it's time to move on.
Maybe not triple option but I suspect he could Excel at normal QB option with the occasional pass out of it to a wide open receiver.
Exactly... his timing was not adequate for success with the RPO.....
..if they show a stacked box look or anything close to it, Kelly will have us pass almost every down to scare them out of it. If it doesn't work, the players just needed to execute better, it's hard to win, and get used to it

right where you dropped her off at.

You seem to consistently struggle with the simplest of one line sentences [wondering to myself if you've finished the fifth grade].. much like your compatriots.
One could hardly be blamed for wondering if you are all in fact the same person. Then again maybe you just really suck that bad..
Do me a favor though, will ya...if you're gonna keep humping on my leg, up your game so you are at least worthy of my time.

The problem is not only Bars being out, but Kramer and Hainsey both playing hurt. The bye week actually could fix that.
I'd hate to see an offense at ND that assumes our OL is a weakness.
traps, but I've been saying that since Holtz left.
.....slow developing deep handoffs are the kiss of death...............we have been forced to throw on third or fourth and 1 many times.......even this season and we have had to rely on the defense when we were unable to run out the clock. The Pitt game was the most recent example..............at some point, the D will not be able to do so
And it can't easily be changed on the fly. Maybe better to focus on improving execution of the existing scheme.
