GO IRISH
Update: At his presser, Kelly said Tranquill is questionable. "We're definitely optimistic that we can get him back," Kelly said.

At least that's what my coach told me when he insisted I was fine to play. Tranquill remembers all the great starts since 2014, only to bomb out later in the season. I think he will find some way to play, as long as he is "cleared". Waiting for more healing is irrelevant if NU bangs us.
On an unrelated note, anybody have a guess as to how big an ND fan contingent will show Saturday? I know it is Chicago but it is a smaller stadium (47,000).
It's not about "toughing it out." If it was just a matter of playing through pain, Tranquill would do it. But the only way an ankle sprain heals is to stay off it. So you don't practice or you continually aggravate it "playing through it."
I do acknowledge that top notch athletes are going to have a higher tolerance for pain, and that Novacaine can help alleviate temporary pains, but as Napoleon stated, playing on it is only going to continue aggravating it, and will push the recovery time even further back.
The main question is this... Are Tranquil's replacements capable of holding down the fort for the next few games? If they can, then he can rest / rehab, and get back to full strength by the playoffs. If the replacements become terrible liabilities, then we may have no choice but to play him if we want to make the playoffs.
I don't know if last week's game was a good measure, given that it was a triple option offense they were going up against, and not a spread attack that most colleges are using these days.
I do trust Clark Lea to make the right decision, though.

He's out of the boot and walking. Some hope he'll be able to play Saturday. Like I wrote below, seems unlikely to me. But if anyone will bounce back quicker than expected, I guess it would be Tranquill.

White got some good minutes in last week, to the tune of 6 tackles.
