underneath? I say yes. Harass the hell out of him from the first snap, force turnovers and make him hit the deep ball with single coverage. If ND gets burned so be it, make adjustments. However, you can take the whole offense out of their game plan at the outset. That would take daring, not sure Kelly has it in him.
On offense, pound the ball, control the clock, that won't happen, but it's nice to hope.

Dungy is very dangerous with his legs and uses them well on 3rd down. Have Drue spy him the entire game.
That is what am elite team does.
Give em four yards and a cloud of dust as a steady diet..then Dex hits the home run because the Dline disappears faster than a Blimpie sandwich in Times Square.. constant ground and pound...
Sounds counter-intuitive but that is Lea's way. Forcing them to rush runs clock, which alters their high tempo. Cut down on yards per carry and put them in unfamiliar down/distance. Tempo teams do not like this.I agree we take away their underneath, which is their bread and butter. To do that we play press/man like we did against UM and FSU and we contest the ball. The deep ball we defense with our relentless pressure. Of course, takeaways are huge. Only blitz I would do would be Gilman down the pike and maybe an occasional Tevon/Drue. They are susceptible to safety blitz. But only a handful of other than 4 man pressure.
averaging 6.1 yards per carry and has scored five times. He started the year hot, accumulating at least 70 yards rushing in his first four games. He cooled down a bit after that, but he seems to have found his stride again coming off Syracuse’s blowout win against Louisville. Neal had eight carries for 159 yards against the Cardinals on the road to scoring two touchdowns. Neal did not do anything fancy in the game. He simply trusted his instincts and gutted Louisville up the middle. The Notre Dame defense has played well against the run for the most part. However, there are moments where they seem to let guys gash them up the middle and allow the opposition to extend drives. The Irish will have their hands full having to account for both Neal and Dungey on the ground”

Keep Dungey in check and the rest will take care of itself.
