Crowd the line ...manhandle ..hold the wrs and make book hit a few deep shots...jt barrett and osu were stymied ..never connected on any deep passes.. thoughts?
If (and it's a big if) we can move the ball consistently through the air, we can make it competitive and cover the spread. If not it's an Alabama redux. One big question is whether some key players on each team will go pro and opt out of the game. Alize Mack is one questionmark for the Irish.

Clemson plays quarters about 50% of the time in their base defense. They are very comfortable with 2 safety looks.
I can't see a situation where Clemson looks at ND's run game and say, "they will not only be able to gash is with 7 in the box but also ND will be patient in doing so".
Clemson is going to rely on their front 7 to win in the run game and make it harder for Book to find lanes.
accepted an invite to the Senior Bowl. No 5th year for him.
Wow.... cover the spread?
ND Wins by 4.

He made a real contribution to this team. He's playing in the CFP playoffs, and he got some All-American accolades. I don't recall him having meaningful drops this season, though I do remember him making some big plays -- like the incredible catch he made against UM (in which the UM safety was ejected, but Alize held on to the ball) and the dagger-to-the-heart TD against Stanford. Why a Notre Dame fan would take the time at this moment to dump on this player is absolutely beyond me.
the ball and his inability to break a tackle at this time. He has potential but needs to develop it before he goes pro. Remember he missed a season due to academics too, and I am sure that hurt his development.
You claimed he still "drops too many key passes" in "pressure situations." That's your "honest assessment." How about examples of "key passes" he dropped this season. I'm interested in that "honest" examination. When I think of Mack catching passes this season, I first remember the amazing catch he made against UM . . . a catch that showed incredible toughness, and a catch most TEs wouldn't have made. I'm having a hard time remembering "key passes" in "pressure situations" that he dropped this year. Honestly.
the fundamental, easy passes he messes up on a bit, although admittedly less this year than last year, but what they show is a tendency to be careless. Actually his performance picked up when Book was inserted as the starter and in fact even against North Carolina last year when Book started he handled the "easy" passes better. He still fails when it comes to breaking tackles or making it tough on the first guy who hits him. Pro career? On potential, yes and what he has done to date, no.
Zero examples of “key drops” in “pressure situations” this season. Your “honest assessment” is nonsense. Mack had a very good season and has been a real contributor to ND’s undefeated season. Singling him out for criticism at this point is pure BS. The starting TE on ND’s playoff team deserves better from fans.
Isn't there a famous poem that ends with something like "...these are the saddest of all possible words: what might have been?" Kind of sums up Mack.
He's the starting TE for an undefeated playoff team, and he was named second team All-American by Sports Illustrated. And he'll likely play on Sundays.
You wont see him starting for anybody anytime soon
He wasnt anywhere to be seen on the lists that matter
People still read/buy Sports Illustrated?
that he thinks he is NFL material actually
Now I have to clean off my keyboard.
