I am seriously wondering if we can win one in that time frame, and whether I can live that long.

30 years is a long time.
I expect ND will have the funding to compete over that time frame, but needs continuous improvement to get there.
I think Kelly has moved the new “normal” from an average of 8 wins per year to about 10. With a little luck, normal variation will result in a 12-0 season every three or four years. That will be good enough to get ND in the playoffs a few times per decade. With a little luck, they might win it all in you lifetime.

Neither unless we recruit speed and difference makers. See Tim Brown’s comments yesterday.
no - SEC and the likes have a clear advantage in recruiting and coaching...also, very difficult without a 5-star, stud qb and, an elite coach. .the 2012 and latest debacle have done serious damage to the program - especially recruiting
Think about that, since ‘88 the results don’t lie. The two chances to win another championship ‘12 and ‘18 proved how far ND is away from even sniffing another one. The real issue is that it’s not a player or two it’s that the team wasn’t even close to being competitive in either game. And judging by how recruiting continues to evolve, ND has no shot. I grew up watching Daryle Lamonica, Joe Montana, Joe Thiesman. That was well over 30 years ago. Ricky Watters, Jerome Bettis in the backfield, not anymore. ND doesn’t get those kind of players anymore. Some great lineman and TE’s are great, however the skilled high end players don’t go to ND anymore. And that is not changing in our lifetime. The fact that the top teams start freshman QB’s and win championships says everything. ND is not in that fight for the top QB’s anymore. At one time the QB at ND was the top player in the country. Now no one even knows who he is. Finally, I’m not sure with safety issues whether football is well beyond it’s peak with many current NFL players not wanting their sons to ever play the game.
above our current level.
