I had a signed copy of Tim Brown's SI issue as a kid. Rocket was my era. But its Will Fuller.
He had 30 TD to Rocket's 9. It wasn't a big game, but he saved ND from an embarrassing loss to Virginia, and he made USC look like UCLA.
He was so good at "go deep", that defenses were forced to keep two safeties back all the time.

well, at least a contender for the greatest name ever.

But I am good with your old school. There are way too many "fans" who have little sense of ND history before they started watching.
It would be quite questionable to include him among the greatest offensive players, but it is after all an opinion thread. So, I guess if bakedogg thinks he is on his list, well ok.

.... since the discussion was re: great offensive players and Waymer was certainly not that. He had more TDs as a DB than as an offensive player.
Waymer's stats as an offensive player: 11 catches, 10 rushes total, 1 TD.
I'm sure that there are better picks as top two way players. Heck without even thinking hard you can start with Leon Hart.
No contest, followed by Tim Brown.

And if Lea can't find a Mike, he can do that too.

QB is the key offensive position and even if he was underused at ND we all know what he was capable of... and he did win a NC and play in three iconic Irish games (the Green Shirt and two Cotton Bowls).
How many times do we have to go through this? He was a great NFL quarterback. That did not make him a great college quarterback. Theismann had a better ND career. Hanratty had a better ND career. Clements had a better ND career. Nevermind guys like Mirer, Rice and Clausen, who were more recent quarterbacks who performed better than Montana in college.
No way no how for me..I don't care about stats , arm strength whatever...Give me the W-L record, and Clausen's was abysmal...Montana won two major bowls, a nat'l title, a nd if not ripped off in '78 at USC, after orchestrating a comeback for the ages from 24-6, may have been playing for another one, despite opening season with two losses..
Montana, for me, is at least tied for 1st with the rest..
Also, he put up those stats with no defense or running game, and bad coaching. He did have significant receiving weapons, however.
If so, can you please name the game?
Two thumbs up on Clausen comment. I never thought he "got" Notre Dame.
Clausen was the most accurate college quarterback I've seen his last two years at ND. Excellent player at the college level who just had a much weaker supporting cast. Some of the same folks who will downgrade him will say, "Oh, but Hornung was great."
He not only didn't win much; its goes beyond that He lost home games to the 'Cuse, Navy, UCONN where ND as average as they were , were better than those teams..And he really got exposed in the NFL, where he didn't belong..
I never thought the guy was much good..To put him in same sentence as Hanratty, Theismann, Clements, Rice, Montana is laughable..and has me SMH..Brady Quinn was worlds better than Clausen..

It's amazing how much backfield talent ND had at the height of Lou's tenure. Tomy Brooks, Rodney Culver, Anthony Johnson, Mark Green and on and on. Guys like Dorsey Levens and Braxston Banks couldn't see any carries.

Gipp was well before my time.....

Watters
Mayes
Reggie Brooks
Denson
Julius Jones
Shark
Floyd
Tate
Fuller
This is just off the top my head. Amazing while I know there are some great offensive players in the Davie/Willingham era, it was difficult to come up with many.
