Besides the fact that we expected him to be a leader and captain of the Team, he has regressed. This regression does more than just effects his status, it also effects the back up QBs reps and development. Kelly will keep Book in games now to work out the kinks and become comfortable where as truth be told he should have already secured this in Spring and Summer practice. This is where the knock on Kelly of developing QBs is warranted.
First priority is to win games week in and week out but getting your second string QB meaningful reps in game time situations will be very important especially if Book keeps leaving the pocket. I will admit I am a Phil fan and I think he has championship caliber football talent but book is the man now so we ride with what got us to the dance last year. I just donβt know why Kelly canβt do both.

running game and keep the passing game simple to balance the offense

If he actually is regressing and doesn't play better, . . well, that's a real problem. It would have been nice if ND put UL away quickly and Jurkovec was able to get some meaningful game time. Looking forward to seeing him against New Mex.
I would say the 3 worst games he has played were Clemson, USC and Louisville.
The other concern is the trend of QB regression under Kelly starting with Dayne Crist and continuing with basically every QB but Rees.
I don't know how much I put into the Clemson game because, well . . . Clemson was monstrously good at the end of the season. SC wasn't a great game, but he threw for a lot of yards and a couple of TDs. My recollection was that he started slow and hit a big TD before half to turn momentum. But, yes, his completion percentage and comfort level have been down across at least three games. And I can't argue against BK's history of QB "regression." So fingers crossed.
