The only change with Book is ...

... the offensive line play. Otherwise, he would be playing like he had last year, both good and bad. As you said, he seems to have not progressed much. But the line is not giving him much help.

Pass blocking has been pretty good all year.

He's jittery and he panics when he doesn't need to, and he can't/won't throw the ball downfield, which allows the defense to sell out to stop the run. The problems on offense, in my view, derive from the QB position.

Also when you have a guy like Claypool, take some shot down field even if it’s a 50/50 ball.

He’ll bring some down and at worst it’s a punt.

Book won’t stand in there to wait for a route to clear. Their safety’s knew that. Kelly's offense in general over relies on the QB. Ian is a great kid that makes the best of his talent, but he’s not that guy. Would have loved to have had that guy Perkins running it.

There are opportunities available with Claypool that are much better than 50/50

To be honest, I'm a little flummoxed as to why Ian isn't taking better advantage of him.

Thread Level: 6

No doubt. Because he’s flushed before the route is there,

That's part of it, but a lot of the time he just isn't looking for him

I've got a post coming later today that shows what I'm talking about.

Yeah, because he locks onto 3 receivers in an order of preference FInke, Claypool, then Kmet

based on who's on the field.

Thread Level: 7

Come on, half the time he waits 3 seconds and flushes himself out even where there's no pressure

Happy feet jumping out of the pocket to early and missing open receivers is the line fault?

On point, especially re: Book. Same mistakes he made last year.

Kelly wants to work on his short passing like Wimbush to fluff up his numbers a little.
