Link: 5 Things I Didn't Like in Notre Dame's Close Call with USC
So infuriating when Book is snapping the ball with 20-30 seconds left on play clock. Especially in the 4th Q.
Book doesn't have to telegraph it and milk each snap under 5 seconds, but many many minutes could be bled if he waited to snap the ball with UNDER 15 seconds...

On #4, there were a few types of plays that ND could have, and should have, hung their hat on and run over and over. USC had no answer to our Oline and inside running game. Combine that with some play action to Kmet and wash, rinse, repeat. There was no need for all the other nonsense. Football is not a complicated sport, if you have the horses. ND has the horses, especially on the Oline and at TE.
Also on #4, Michigan tried to stop Wisconsin from running........how'd that work? Michigan, like USC, is week up front on D. Iowa chucking the ball all over the field against them was criminal and they lost because of it. Now, we all know this is not how BK will have the game called, but if ND was determined to run the ball, they'd be able to run the ball and wear UM out. Throw in a few play action passes to Kmet or Tremble and the game won't be close.
On #5, that plan showed zero faith in ND's players being able to do what they've been GREAT at all year. That was an over-thought, Brian Kelly "look how brilliant I am" special. USC's WR, great as they are, scared him so much that he took their glaring weaknesses, freshman QB, bad Oline, no TE threat completely off the table.
Pressure kept Slovis uncomfortable in the first half, and he missed throws because of it. That D probably looks good on paper, but once the linemen were gassed from battling double teams all night and DB's were gassed from chasing WR's longer than they should have, USC could run and throw at their leisure. IMO, all that D did was hang the players out to dry and give a freshman QB all the confidence to look like an all-american. It was Navy 2010 all over again.
