According to multiple sources, Irish Illustrated and 247Sports have learned that, barring a last second change of heart, a Fighting Irish wide receiver will leave the program effective immediately and transfer upon an expected graduation in early 2020.
We’ve been informed that Michael Young is set to grad transfer from Notre Dame and will look to finish his final two years of eligibility elsewhere.
On Saturday, look for wide receivers Chase Claypool, Chris Finke and Braden Lenzy to be the starting trio for the Fighting Irish vs. Michigan.
designed to get Finke the ball against USC was probably the final insult.
Wish the young man well. Maybe he'll land somewhere where talent is valued over being assignment correct in the system.

I don't blame him for leaving after 2017, though. He almost got his neck broken several times leaping for Wimbush's throws that were way too high, and getting hammered by opposing DB's and LB's.
There were many times that had Wimbush hit him in stride on those short to medium range passes, that he could have broken one for a good distance, but when there's poor accuracy, it's bound to put a crimp into things.

That ESB thought it was better to leave than come back for a senior year. That he couldn't do much more with the offense we had. Remember ESB never got over 1000 receiving. He had about 950 his sophomore year, but junior year was about 600. Ian Book is never going to throw it 40 yards down the field 15 times a game. I kind of understand but I think if ESB had come back for senior year he would have eclipsed 1000 yards. Concerning is the fact that we haven't had a receiver over 1000 yards since 2015
Especially when you're given a grade of "return to school." Scouts essentially told him, "don't declare." He declared anyway. My question is "what's the difference?" We got the least of the St. Brown trio. He was ridiculously overrated. I'd take the SC cat in a millisecond. And Papa St. Brown? I have a bag of dirt in my back yard that could give him a run for his money intellectually. He's a mini LaVar Ball.
Everything I’ve read suggests that Lenzy passing him on the depth chart was the main factor.
Maybe, but I bet if he had more receptions he would still be here.
Then his big moment, he fumbles the ball in the open field. What are the coaches supposed to do?

Why not have 6-2 220 McKinley who is also a better athlete??
I get Finke was a reliable option but his own drops and muffs have negated that. I'd rather have Avery Davis returning punts if he's going to muff one every other game. At least the potential of him scoring is there when it ain't really with Finke. Same on offense...if he's going to drop balls..put someone who is going to drop as many balls but is a bigger threat when he catches them. None of the wr's have major dropsy issues...put the best athletes on the field. Sucks Michael Young wants to bounce but I can't blame him. Finke really outplayed him?
So if the coaching staff insists on playing him, in my dimwitted brain I'm thinking its on the millionaire coaching staff. Should we be pissed at Finke or the numbnuts staff that insists on playing him over actual scholarship players? Its a tough one.
...have the speed for some of the plays he is being used for.
I was in an end zone section for USC and watched him get run down from behind consistently on plays that could have been big or bigger gainers.

they didn't. kelly gave him a scholarship and insists on playing a walkon. Must be Finke's fault. Not Kelly's.

It would appear that Finke, Lenzy and Keys are all the same type of wr, basically smaller slot guys, while Claypool and McKinley are bigger receivers. Wilkins who is 6'2" got some time against USC.
What really matters is the the best wrs get on the field as often as possible. We've still got guys like Jones, Robertson who haven't seen much meaningful time but Kelly mat have to dip into that group if somebody is injured and perhaps split out Tremble as a wr as appropriate.

If we're talking about Michigan . . . can Finke make a difference against UM?

Got to sub in tall and faster WR’s also once in awhile that can take it to the house.

I remember his father tweeting that he couldn't understand why there were never any deep throws to his son. (I presume he never watched Book play.)
Agreed.
